I've noticed that there is contributions of circa £22k and 0% (if taking pcp) which has made these look very attractive. I assume this is due to the 2018 X5 coming soon although probably no M version straight away.

They generally get good reviews, any issues with them, how's the MPG (I'm not expecting much), options that are a must ?

Not driven, but I think I'd love it. Would probably swap my M3 for one if it weren't for the inevitable negative equity I'm in.

Mind you, dread to think of my commute mpg.

Just for laughs priced up a loaded X5M on the BMW website and got to £112K. Madness.

Then again when the Merc M class hit the streets in the late 90s I said to anyone silly enough to listen that Merc had produced the answer to a question no-one had asked. How wrong I was!

I was given an X6M while my M5 was in for service work and I have to say it was laugh out loud fast. The speed and handling was nothing short of astonishing given the sheer bulk of the thing.

Could I live with it long term? No I don't think so as once the novelty of the pace wore off things like it's physical size around town just get annoying. If I were in the market for something like the X5/X6 I think I would struggle to see the worth of the //M version over something like X5/X6 4.0d

I just say in one , out of curiosity whilst dropping my X1 off for its first service.

Seats are super supportive, great driving position and it felt luxurious; and having done 17k miles in a SUV I’m more enamoured to the overall SUV experience than I’d have ever imagined.

BUT it’s freaking massive!

My other car is a E46 M3 and even though the X1 is shorter which does help when parking in street in my city , it’s the widest vehicle I’ve owned and I can notice the difference when squeezing down some city streets with cars parked either side. I’m closer to touching and turn mirrors in.

I think the X5 would be a pain , plus the length for parking.

There was a new X3 there too and they’re going to do a M and before that the M40i which may well be enough should I decide to consolidate into one vehicle as I’m not sure any X M vehicle will come close to replicating the raw E46 M3 experience of a mountain B road blast.

Thats not what they're really about for me, the X5M and others of its type...are a because I can type of car, there's absolutely no point to them because who really needs a 2.2 plus tonne big/high vehicle that goes that fast...

It makes me want one even more though! biggrin

Get it bought.... Had mine for 7 months from new, £101k list, £23k discount. Cracking value at £78k compared to the competition. Faster than my previous F10M5 in daily grind of damp roads, cold temperatures, etc. Being able to deliver full throttle at all times is a right giggle. Comfort and relaxation levels are great and a lovely place to pass away time. Daily mpg is around 17-18, longer trips might hit 20..... so what, that’s a given.
Actually a shorter car than F10 and with all the surround cameras easy to park in cities, etc. Doesn’t feel any bigger on the twisties. The ultimate daily snotter for me. I’ll definitely get another after this!

I'm currently £5k away from where I need to be, discount is a touch under £23k so aligns with your own although this is on a base car. If the 21" wheels and sun protection are optioned it's a £7k distance as they don't increase the GFV.

I've left it at the moment with the dealer that if they can significantly close that gap I'll push the button.

The 31st Dec is fast approaching so you never know thy may absorb, we'll see.

I was thinking silverstone with black interior, although this exterior colour is very rare on this model and the closest I can find is 1 X6M in it. Donnington grey is another thought.

I had Silverstone in my previous 2 M cars and loved it on M3/M5. I know this is very personal, but I just didn't like the X5M in Silverstone. Was unsure on Donnington but the dealership got me one of BMW's 3 demo cars over for a couple of days. Absolutely stunning colour in the X5M. Alot more depth than Space Grey, I get so many comments on it. Agreed, SPG required. The ride on the 21's is better than non M's on 20's with non runflat, etc. Again, personal, but I would also definitely spec the Carbon interior trim which IMO really raises the interior more than the £600-£700 I think it cost and goes great with the black leather. What else? Glass roof, all round parking camera, Winter pack. Other good news is that I've never had so many points on my Shell V Power loyalty card! Probably do about 12k a year in mine which I work out at probably £350 per month. Keep pushing on the deal, but you may need to find a middle ground! Best of luck....

Thanks for the reply, I need to see silverstone in the flesh, I just didn't want the usual black, white or grey ! however donnington is also a strong contender as it's a "different" kind of grey. I stayed away from the carbon as I was trying to keep the interior bright due to the black leather, although I love the finish it gives. I have surround view on my 6 and it's a well worth option, glass roof would also help the interior light issue however we're pushing nearly £2k for these options. Winter pack was also considered but not sure we'd really appreciate it. I've got to keep in mind this is a 2nd car and used primarily for the school run through the week and a family bus at the weekend.

We'll see what happens.

Bearing in mind that this is going to be in the same price range as the F90 M5 which will have 4WD and be dynamically on a different level, I'm not sure I see the value in it.

I've just brought this.

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Had a test drive last week and quite enjoyed it, far more fun than my disco 4 I had for the last 4 months.

Gone from an R8 V10, BMW M4, VW Amarok, Disco 4, Westfield to this since January this year, i think i have issues!

Very nice. That one has been catching my eye on autotrader for a while now :-) Looks a great spec.
I'm sure that was up for £63k initially so a good price too!

Enjoy!

I paid quite a lot less than that for a newer, lower mileage and similar spec F10 M5. If you think that's a better buy then I think you're in the wrong forum

Why am I in the wrong forum, I didn’t comment on the price or an M5. Simply on the thread.

Cheers

Peter vardy are offering £22,469..... I've been offered circa another £500 on top of this from my local dealer.

You keep pushing the M5 F10 or F90 as an alternative to the X5M. If i wanted the M5 I would buy one.

The attraction with the X5M is the SUV benefits not specifically the handling/performance, there is no specific focus on these areas meaning the X5M is the best of both worlds.

I’ve been out in it today, I live on a tiny lane and it is a handful in the snow. I plan on using this in the Alpes over the next few months so will stick a set of winters on it. The performance is untrue for such a big thing.

Loving it.
