My passenger side mirror has started acting very weirdly. After going back into neutral or drive after being in reverse, the mirror element comes up from being pointed to the kerb, but carries on past looking down the side of the car until it looks up at the sky. Pressing the memory button on the seat then sends it back down towards the kerb. Pressing it again then brings it back up to where it should be. However, if I have to reverse again, the process starts again.

I have tried resetting the memory button on the seat, taken the mirror through its full range of movement using the electric button and folded the whole wing mirror in and out a few times. Have turned the car off. Left it for a few hours. Nothing seems to get rid of the behaviour.

Any ideas?

It started doing it after the car was washed so perhaps there is moisture somewhere in the system. Never had it before after washing though.

Car is ‘17 140i with memory electric seats and powered folding mirrors (with the memory mirror function).

Ta.

Never had that issue with mine, I'd suggest videoing the behaviour and then booking it in at your local dealers as even if water has got in somewhere, it shouldnt have done!

I used to have this problem on my E91, issue was water/dirt getting interrupting the electrical contact between the mirror housing and the motor. Things might have moved on since mine, but would imagine that there's still a connector in the mirror so worth checking.

Very simple to fix on the E91, so worth a check to see if you can do the same -

Hi

Thanks for the replies. Had a look at the link and I will take the mirror off if it happens again.

The following day it was still doing it, but not as much as the day I cleaned it (only about half a cm out from the programmed position). The day after that, it was back to normal.

I can only assume that I was a bit too enthusiastic with the pressure washer and it took a few days for the moisture to dry out.

Will keep an eye on it and be a bit more careful when washing.
