On a decent run upto Liverpool at the weekend I got 22MPG

Normal round town stuff it shows avg 17MPG

6 laps of the Nurburgring the avg was 7MPG

They are big heavy things compared to M5.
Very helpful, thank you. That's not as bad as I thought - 15%-20% worse by the sound of it on a run (where most of my mileage is).
Yeh if you are spending many hours in one - then they are pretty nice places to sit. The interior is an improvement on the F10, the ride isn't that harsh despite the 21" wheels. My only gripe is that on a motorway (not sure if the others get what I mean) but you find yourself constantly putting inputs into the steering to keep it on track. I'm not talking massive amounts - but I certainly (noticeably) find myself correcting it more than I ever did on the F10. Not sure if it is a geometry thing or thats how they are kinda thing. Would be useful for the other guys with them to comment?

Recently got an X5, just a 4.0D, replaced a Touareg, really impressed with the quality and the performance, but I also noticed the frequent slight steering inputs needed when you're on the motorway on the straight. I wondered if it was just the car and maybe needed a check on the toe-in, or whether it was an issue with the model. Sounds like it might be the model.

ps. Just for the record, haven't got rid of the F10 M5!

Funny, I find mine absolutely rock solid on the Motorway. I’m a bit obsessive with things like this, even handing back an AMG after 3 months because I just couldn’t tolerate its camber sensitivities and having to continually adjust to the right (my wife thinks I’m a loon and she’s probably right!). Might be worth getting the the geo checked?

Anyone had the 21" wheel option repaired after some kerbing ? The polished face (almost chrome) finish is slightly marked.

My OCD is in overload !

Yes, at Lepsons. £100 a wheel.

An unplanned car change is happening.

So if any UK owners want my 21" winter tyres (they will be removed and the MPSS put back on the standard wheels) drop me a PM.

I'll whack em on ebay otherwise.

I also have these - only fitted for 2 months.

Why is the insurance cost so much on these cars!!! Ridiculous... I suspect it is down to car theft.

3 weeks ago I sold my 16 plate M3 and bought a 16 plate X5 40d. It too requires lots of little inputs on the steering. But so did the Range Rover sport when I test drove that too.

I assumed all SUV’s were like this....?

Can anyone recommend a decent alloy wheel upgrade? I’m thinking 451m’s or 599m’s.

Anyone got any pics of their X5’s with nice alloys?

I found myself behind one recently, for some reason they put the boot down and it fked off at an almighty pace. Quite a surprise given it is the size of a small house!

TX.
I have long susepcted that before the new M5 came out, these were among the very fastest M's in a straight line due to XDrive, and that BMW just 'massaged' the numbers (like in the old days) to avoid any issues with the M5 /M3 etc.

I have also been behind one - in my range rover rather than my M6GC and similarly watch it absolutely take off after the end of the 50 zone on the M1.
