My 2 cents- it looks like it's had a hard life. Generally grubby and the interior is marked. Mileage low, smell a rat. Who puts Infinity Ecomax tyres on such a car-someone who doesn't give a toss

I wouldn't even consider it.

Also it seems like 2nd hand prices are slipping slightly...so if you decided to look elsewhere, other M5s likely have had their prices eased or will do soon.

They've just dropped £3k on it.

Feel used prices dropping weekly now…..
My M5 comp gets traded on Friday and the dealer is having kittens that the price they offered me 10 days ago should now be £1,500 less. Feel these gas’s guzzling dailies will get hammered over the coming couple of months. If buying now I’d really negotiate hard or hang on a couple of months and likely save £3-4K.

I'm a bit confused by the mode buttons on the LCI M5C; there is a road and sport setting. We already have M1 and M2 buttons that give you two completely customisable settings, so what purpose do the road and sport mode settings serve?

Thanks.
There are Road, Sport and Track settings for M-Mode - these are totally independent from the M1 & M2 configuration. Pressing on the M-Mode button essentially disables some driver aids but maintains full traction and stability control features of the car, so you can go into either Sport or Track but maintain DSC On with 4WD if you so choose, or you can go into any of the M-Mode settings and then press M1/M2 to set the drivetrain, gearbox and traction preferences. In M-Mode, both the Live-Cockpit and Head-up Displays also default to M-View.

Below are screenshots of the features which are disabled in each setting which I hope you will find useful.

Just spoke to the dealer…

“It’s done 4000 miles in the last 3 years. Is there a reason for that?”

“A lot of cars have this. It’s Covid.”

“And it hasn’t been serviced since 2019?”

“Doesn’t look like it, we’ll service it before it’s sold though”

Thing is, as iffy as it sounds, if BMW are giving me a warranty on it then surely I am covered for any serious expenses?

Just done a deal with a dealer to buy mine next week as it’s not getting any use and I think with the impending recession values will begin to fall.

Had a good run though, bought at £73k 5 months old (retail £113k) and selling for £65k no hassle to a dealer for cash 18 months later. First main service will be undertaken by the dealer before they sell it on.

It’s in showroom condition with only 3600 miles (70 Plate) so should sell easily.

I would check with a BMW first....the missing service (by date) might be an issue even if done now.
I would seriously look for something in the dealer network...at least if something goes pear shaped you have better comeback than at an Indy.

I know. I have an excellent standard M5 at an agreed price through a fellow PHer. It’s not the exact colour I wanted and isn’t a Comp but, frankly, I am not sure I can tell the difference! This one just ticks every box and is £3/4K cheaper than a BMW dealer. Is it easy to clock these cars I wonder? I am assuming if BMW are offering me a price for a warranty they will cover it.

As I understand it, you can go out and buy the Extended Warranty and no checks are done by them to confirm that the car has a BMW service history. These checks are only done by the BMW dealer if/when you need to make a claim - this is stated in the warranty handbook. It is at this point you *may* have an issue. It is also at this point when BMW plug it into the compuer that things such as re-maps or mileage discrepancies could bite you too.

Aaaah. Planning on going to see this car in the flesh this week. I’ll see how willing the dealer is to guarantee the provenance of the car…

I would not touch that car for free, give it a miss , the tyres alone tell you it's been neglected, by the way IF you have an accedent in it with those tyres on it, you could find you are not insured, BMW only use Quality tyres not cheap rubbish.

More likely the dealer has whacked those on when he’s bought the car but I take your point. I’ve never heard of an insurance policy that specifies tyres.

I know it doesn’t look great but assuming BMW say there isn’t a problem with it and I put 4 new tyres on it then….

Marty,

You are ignoring all the good advice you’ve been given so I’m unsure why you keep responding.

No performance car is cheap to own and based on your PH garage this is your first experience of such ownership. Despite all the red flags you appear to be focussing on the purchase price which is a small part of the overall cost of ownership, especially if you buy a bad one. There is little room for cutting corners with performance cars. They all cost a shed load one way or another. I do wonder if you’re financially ready for this type of purchase and whether you need to reconsider before making a costly mistake.

Not ignoring anything said here, quite the opposite. I’ve run an E63 before so am aware of the potentially ruinous running costs should things go wrong. The fact that I am keeping an open mind until I see it doesn’t mean I am going to be running at the dealer throwing cash at him.

I would also add that a condition of the warranty is that you service the car according to the BMW schedule, which is 2 years or 15000 miles. If the car was last serviced 11/2019 then it is 8 months overdue, so again, you may have issues when you come to use the warranty.

As for this car, maybe you could get a BMW dealer in Liverpool to do a PPI and also tell you whether they could retail the car as an AUC? The seller should be amenable to this, and if they are not, then there are plenty of other cars out there.

I'm a previous M5 owner plus lots of M3's etc based in Liverpool, I could have a look at it for you and give my feedback if it helps, can't find the link is it

one of the M5's from Wavertree car centre ? Or Riverside Racing ( both within 4 miles of my house), Let me know if I can help a fellow Pistonheader.
