Traction control on, off or MDM?

I remember having a "moment" in my E90 M3 in MDM mode which took me by surprise!

Any good deals to be had on a new or pre-reg comp?

I was offered 28k off a new non - comp car and the sales agent thought he could get close to 25k off a comp. Cutting a long story short, the next day his manager informed me that he was talking BS and that the best they could offer was 15k off.

I test drove the non comp and it felt soft and disconnected. The sports exhaust was also a little quiet.

Therefore, comp only for me but it looks like short supply is keeping the prices high?

I can’t speak for the ride (other than I’m happy with my normal M5), but I understand the sports exhaust is identical and I can confirm there’s a knack to getting it to snap, crackle and pop yes

Mrs Jazzer was looking at an M2 yesterday at our local dealer, where six F90s were lined up for sale-I’ve never seen this before with M-cars, especially M5s.

I miss the power, presence and technology of M5s, so I think I’ll get this latest beast.

Do they fit inside standard 7 foot garage entrances?

Mind has a single entrance, opening out inside!!

Same issue. 7ft opening is fine but the door mechanism/frame gets in the way. I calculated 60mm clearance either side with mirrors folded. I am looking to replace the up and over doors with rollers as I think that would give a little more clearance. Fortunately no issue once in the garage as its an open double.

I have just ordered a non comp M5 to my spec with a discount of 28k (94k List) due late September and will need to be registered by end of Sept to get the price.I believe that the discounts available for the Comp M5 are around 10k less

I had a M5 Comp over the weekend and I live in Devon so drove on all different roads and surfaces and I can see why there is a different views on the ride quality as my feelings changed over the weekend. The suspension is very stiff and it lots of conditions the ride is acceptable but on the wrong road surface it can be very uncomfortable usually on a fast B road with an even surface and not necessary poorly maintained.

This being my 7th M5 and currently driving a M6 Grand Coupe Competion ( which has a much better ride and handles better) I knew I wouldn't be able to put up with the ride long term and I believe the M5 is all about being a fast Super saloon with some comfort and not a "Sports car" but that is just my opinion.

One thing that I think everybody would agree on is the grip and acceleration is awesome but I also agree it is very quiet even with the sports exhaust but I loved the cracks and pops on the over run!. The other big improvement is the seats which are brilliant.

To sum up you need to drive both cars and not just a short test drive and to make your own mind up, they are both great cars but in different ways.

YEP mine does, I put a mirror on the back wall just to sure and fold car mirrors.
It's a double garage so once past the entrance all easy.

The car does feel wide, makes me v nervous going through the entrances / exits of car parks especially the ones with massive concrete kerbs either side! Feels wider to me than my previous B9 RS4.

Similar experience here, four approved used M5s lined up and another two new M5s in the same dealership. More M5s than 1 series!

It’s no secret dealers are forced to buy them hence the deals to get shod. Even at a loss.

Yep agreed. I factory ordered a M5 comp in June and the best I negotiated was £20k off list and c.35% discount on carbon parts. Some great deals out there for non comp cars. I was offer £25k off the bat for a non comp and I expect you could do even better on current dealer stock.

Hopefully this thread is still going. In short long term viewer first time poster and am after some advice. Have finally decided to take the plunge on an M5. Technically I don’t need the car until Feb when my company car goes back but clearly due to build times and deals am starting the process to buy. Lining up some tests in Sept to decide whether to get Comp or Standard and have got some quotes from Broadspeed/Carwow etc.. to get ideas on pricing.

The spread on deals seems quite vast and if you’re relatively flexible on spec seems like there are some deals to be had. As I see it depreciation or mthly is circa £850 per mth. Hence with insurance if I pick up are car in Sept/Oct I have £4000 of cost before I really need the car in Feb.

I also hear rumours that new car orders have a new dash/larger console and that the Standard is dropped for new orders, Comp only. Obviously can’t state my preference until i’ve driven one.

Apologies for all the background but getting to the crux on commercials. The way I view it, new car I can pick my exact spec, get a healthy discount but the way I am targeting the cost is to ignore the discount and simply look at the total cost of the car over 48 mths I.e. inc Balloon. Vs a Cash purchase of a nearly new car/max 12 mths and assume that for that car I’d keep it for 36mths i.e the car would be 48mths old, same as a new.

I definitely wouldn’t finance a used car due to higher APR but would finance a new one. I see plenty of used Comp’s at between £70-78k vs Standards £65-70k

Seems with finance deals on standards I can get to about £74k net over the 48mths inc balloon. Comp’s seem much higher, circa £12k more yet I see some people claiming to get a comp for £78k new.

What target should I be aiming for and am I looking at things the right way?

Should I buy now with current big savings and take the £4K depreciation hit or wait to order in December?

I assume that you can still get BMW finance deal on new in port car vs standard finance deal on a Pre-Reg?

Finally outside of aesthetics, apart from Sports Exhaust(standard) and Comfort Pack are there any must have extra’s on the car.

Apologies, having been a company car driver for the last 15 years it’s all new to me and just trying to ensure I make the right calcs when executing the deal.

As I said, I am making appointments with local dealers but don’t want to get caught out as a new buyer and taken for a ride.

Thank you in advance for the help. Really appreciated, excited after so many company car years to pick a car that I want!
