F90 M5 Competition
Discussion
Lovely car and tremendous discounting on the AUCs for almost-new / ultra low mileage.
Unless I missed it, is a pano / regular sunroof not an option on these? If I tick that option on the AUC site, no results come up. I wondered if it was a weight thing and not in keeping with what M is all about?
I just find it lightens the cabin up nicely on saloons I have driven.

An annoying difference I’ve noticed between the DCT and LCI versions.
When pressing a red M button on the steering wheel the head up display in the DCT version changes to Sport mode, as does the dash. This doesn’t happen on the LCI. You have to press the mode button next to the gear lever to change the head up display/dash to sport mode and then either faff about with the screen to change the settings or press a M button. A step backwards IMO.
Or have I missed something?
Program those buttons anyway you like. When pressing a red M button on the steering wheel the head up display in the DCT version changes to Sport mode, as does the dash. If anyone with an LCI has worked out how to make the displays change to sport when only pressing a M button (as per the DCI) then I’d welcome their advice.

They come with CF roof now as standard.... there was an option for sunroof but this dispenses with CF and therefore adds a lot of weight.Unless I missed it, is a pano / regular sunroof not an option on these? Not sure if this has persisted with CP or whether it was only offered on the standard.
Same with the old M6/GC - it was an option in place of carbon roof but I don't think anyone ever ticked it.
If I were factory speccing one I would be strongly inclined to, as I agree with you, but it might significantly affect resale.

Been out and checked. The M buttons do not allow the head up display or dash display to be programmed or changed. The only way I can find to use the Sport mode for the displays is to press the mode button, and then you have to press a M button to change the settings.

Many thanks - still a lovely car. Maybe I’d just have to get used to it or get a lighter interior. Enjoy the ride - looks really stunning. Not sure if this has persisted with CP or whether it was only offered on the standard.

By M buttons I am referring to those on the steering wheels. When pressing an M1 or M2 button on the steering wheel on the DCT version both the displays (head up and dash) change to SPORT mode. This doesn’t happen on the LCI version, why not?

Go to the Menu, Vehicle settings, M menu, and you can set up the M1 and M2 buttons any way you want

The DCT is the original version of the F90 M5 while the LCI is the latest facelift version. I have owned both and feel I am banging my head against a wall with this question.Go to the Menu, Vehicle settings, M menu, and you can set up the M1 and M2 buttons any way you want
I am very familiar with programming the M1 and M2 buttons but neither have a programmable option to change the displays (head up and dash).
On the older DCT M5 when you pressed either the M1/M2 button both the displays changed to sport mode. This doesn’t happen on the newer LCI M5 unless you also press the MODE button on the center console. It’s a faff and a step back IMO. Quite unlike BMW, which is why I was asking if anyone knew how to resolve it.
Think I might have to head over to the BMW forums.....

Your reference to pre DCT is confusing people I think Phil. DCT is the gearbox in the F10 m5, not any version of the F90.
It’s Pre LCI ie pre facelift you mean, not pre DCT.
F90 M5 Pre LCI and LCI are both 8 speed ZF auto boxes not twin clutch DCT. For anyone who didn’t know LCI stands for LifeCycle Impulse, BMWs funky way of saying facelift.
Your car looks epic in that blue. Enjoy.

It’s a term that I picked up from AT to incorrectly describe the earlier F90’s. I am referring to the pre and post facelift models of the F90.
Other than that my question remains unanswered

I enquired about this today as I am thinking about individual paint. They haven't advised a cost yet, do you know? There is a vast amount of choice but I expect it to be cost-prohibitive.
I am in Australia and for the paint I have been quoted $8800 or 4000gbp to move from individual Aventurine red paint to an out of series individual paint. Still waiting to hear back on the leather. To finish off the button question.......for those still interested
The facelift model has a new MODE button (Road-Sport-Track) on the centre console, which when switched to Sport turns off some of the driver aids and switches both the displays to sport mode. The MODE button does NOT adjust the performance spec.
The M1 & M2 buttons adjust the performance spec as per the pre-facelift model, but now when pressed, don't change the displays from normal to sport and visa versa, as they used to. There is no display option in the M button menus.
Incidentally, I have permanently switched off the same driver aids that the MODE button does when in sport mode, therefore all the MODE button does for me is to switch the displays to sport mode and back, something the M buttons used to do.
The MODE button is a bit of an unnecessary faff IMO, replacing a process that worked well on the pre-facelift model.

I am still not entirely sure we have exhausted this topic If you go through the iDrive, Car setting, M menu (this is per pre-LCI and a sketchy memory) surely in the LCI you can still set up throttle, suspension, steering and head up display (normal or M view)? The M1 and M2 buttons are just short cuts, so you could have both in everything Efficient, Comfort and Comfort but with the M view head up display if this took your fancy? The facelift model has a new MODE button (Road-Sport-Track) on the centre console, which when switched to Sport turns off some of the driver aids and switches both the displays to sport mode. I haven’t found any reference to head up display on the M button program menu on the facelift. More than happy to be proven wrong NBTBRV8 said:

That's utter madness but as an Aussie, I am not surprised. What colour is tempting you to pay so much for paint? $8800 is about £5k and Aventurine is already a £1k option.mondie said:
