But even at £80k it is a relative bargain, what other 625hp car is there for that money new?
TX.
A car is not just about the BHP though is it? I wouldn't call £80k for that car a relative bargain. It will share a lot of stuff with a 520d.TX.
I know it won't drive anything like one, I had an E60 M5 back in the day.
But the sharing of common parts saves vast amounts of money and also unfortunately makes the car less special.
I happened to pop into my local BMW garage today and sat in the new 3 series. I then sat in the 8 series M car. Many of the interior parts ie vents, switches etc were identical. Not really acceptable for a £120k car, and that's why no BMW really is a £120k car, no matter if it has 1000 BHP

IMO, it's the fact that the M5 is based on the 5 and shares the stuff that makes that car so sorted as a saloon, but then adds a proper engine and all the M division magic and tweaks that makes the car so stellar. As an all-rounder, it is difficult to beat. I know it won't drive anything like one, I had an E60 M5 back in the day.

However, there's no way I would pay £100k for it, and I'd love to see what 3 year GFV BMW give the car, just to put things in perpective.

Test drove the f90 m5 but not the comp. I wasn't blown away by the f90, probably because I've been spoilt by the f10. The comp looks great.
I must say mine has been Stella, no faults no interior rattles and quiet brakes.I have covered 2800 miles of pure bliss.
Lovely colour but sadly a bit ‘too in yer face’ for me.
I’m now up to 4000 miles since March and the car (non-CP) is bloody brilliant
I do however seem to have a small annoying rattle/noise from around the sat nav screen which when I have no music is a tiny bit , does anyone else suffer from that part of the dash rattling?
Averaging 18mpg which to be honest isn’t helped with for example my journey into London today........talk about crawling all day in traffic (and before anyone starts, I can’t take public transport because it’s simply not practical!
One point of interest, no matter how hard I try I can’t get the traction light to flicker. Reflecting on the fact that bulb was almost warn out after 33,000 miles on my F10 M5, it proves to me just what a great addition 4x4 is on a car like this

Im sure this will be the horrible speaker cover thats behind the screen, over the center speaker. Just try pushing it down at its front edge, directly behind the screen, and maybe bending it a bit. I had this, and cured it within the first 10 seconds of being in the car I’m now up to 4000 miles since March and the car (non-CP) is bloody brilliant

On the subject of the TC light, i dont think you will see this regualraly, unless it is streaming wet, and you are being a hooligan. I recently borrowed a standard M5, non Comp, and did a few launches, after being discreetly asked to by the dealer , and ive never quite felt anything like it, just pure, and absolute acceleration from a dead stop, and not a sign of a flicker from the TC light, very, very impressive. I could believe the magazines claims of less then 3 seconds to 60

Maybe. But it could be the sliding cover (over the cupholders).
I have a vibration which can be induced by a rough surface or even low engine revs which I thought was coming from around the nav screen / speak grill. I've had the lot apart (very easy to do) and it's not from that area.
I only hear the vibration intermittently and so far, I think it only happens when have the cupholder sliding cover open.
Overall though, as others have said this is a very very good car by any standard.
Mine is not perfect; it has VERY noisy brakes (this car would be so much better with ceramics, an option that I never regret having on any car), the intermittent dash vibration I mention above and the stupid f*cking radio not turning off if you don't leave the car in the 'right' way is mighty irritating. However, not only is it approaching 9 months since I bought it (hey, this is very good for me!) but outside of fitting new tyres when I couldn't get the originals balanced, its never seen a BMW workshop!

The rattle is intermittent and I’ll try the sliding WiFi cover next.
I agree, the radio staying on is fecking stupid, I don’t know why it’s been fiddled with by BMW!

When you have switched the ignition off, just press the on/off radio button for 1 second, and it shuts the whole car down. The rattle is intermittent and I’ll try the sliding WiFi cover next.

I had simply hit the radio button and that turned the radio off and in fairness once you shut the door and lock the car it all shuts down
