Good to hear you're enjoying it!

Regarding tyre noise, it's more the widths than the diameter (285 rears) but on top of that, there's little sound deadening - check under the bonnet - and, for example, the rear subframe is solidly mounted to the body with no bushes.

Good fun though, aren't they.

biggrin

Great fun, it’s just perfect, I don’t see how a car can be any better than the M4, yes an RS5 will be quicker off the mark and a C63 might sound better but the personality of the car is just addictive, it’s how I think riding a dragon would be like

The way it looks is also ace, it’s so menacing and I’m in love with the colour

True! thumbup

I've recently read a review of the M3 in an old issue of Car magazine and that was in Yas Marina Blue. cool

Glad it all went well and you are enjoying it, looks ace.

I am just biding my time, though the wife has picked up on me saving more aggressively as no packages are arriving biggrin

Anyone gone from an M135i/M140i to an M3/M4 ?

I had an M140 Shadow i chopped in about 5 weeks ago, going to sound like a youtube 'journo' here but mine was without the adaptive, the ride was horrible and handling choppy, and with no lsd the way it shunted the low down power of the B58 about wasn't pleasant, but as most say the 140 is a 7/10ths car, thats is not to say it wasn't without its charms i cerrtainly enjoyed time with it. The M4 an entirely different animal initial impressions driving away from the dealer was where is the power ! having been used to that low rev almost diesel like surge the 140 had, but once you get how it works you know where the money went, even at those 7/10ths it just so much more composed/ balanced than the 140, for my driving i much prefer the DCT to the ZF8, and the Mrs much prefers the ride over the same roads from the passenger seat

Need to get some decent photos

Hmm, I dont mind the ride on my M135i, agree on the handling though.

Lovely in Sakhir Orange.

I bought a new M140 in March '17, then regretted not going the whole hog and traded it for a new M3CP in the July (the salesman loved me long time for the finance on that one!).

Very different cars, totally different character all over. The M3 was several magnitudes stiffer and 'serious', whereas the M140 was just a fast 1 Series.

The costs (insurance, servicing etc) were higher on the full fat M. Tyres are more. Cost if stuff goes wrong are more. Both very theftable.

Just do it.

Thanks very much it was between Sakhir and SMB, the road surfaces where i live are particularly poor, The M4 just rides better (in comfort) over the same stretch, i guess the longer wheelbase may help also, My X100 Jag XKR rode better than all but then it is a Jaaag

Just an update, still haven’t had time to properly test the handling however the front end so far seems magical, I’m not sure if it’s the front end or the steering but it just felt absolutely glorious, I went into this big wide roundabout, I was taking the third exit and the car just stuck to the road and there was zero body roll, I hate to say it but this car is wasted on the road.

It also feels very light, I guess it is pretty light but it feels so light and it isn’t the torque that makes it feel light either, it’s so nimble!

I am so excited to discover more of this car!

Just had a play with a 991 GTS cab, I was gaining on him on the straights, bends I wasn’t as confident as I’ve yet to properly get a feel of the car but my god it’s sweet in the bends, the front end is so fking precise!

That Porsche made a lovely noise but no match for the torque this thing has

I know this sounds patronising, but just go steady. Jumping into an unfamiliar 450hp car and racing on the road isn't a recipe for success. IIRC you had a spin in a regular 4 Series on the motorway some time ago. Let that be a bit of a handbrake on your enthusiasm.

Appreciate the advice; that was nearly 4 years ago and I’ve matured a lot since then. I also was taking it easy in the bends as I know these things like to snap the rear out, even with TC on.

If you leave the aids on they're not particularly snappy. In the dry you can lean on them without biting you. It's more that you will be going very fast if you're leaning on it in anything above 2nd. You've got 265 fronts and 285 rears with very grippy tyres.

Haven't they got the same amount of torque? Not that it makes much difference as I assume the Porsche is a little more powerful.

Agreed. From a throttle perspective, they're not snappy with the aids turned on unless you're driving like a tool. The traction control system works well.

I tried flooring the throttle on track with everything turned on. It fed the power in as I unwound the steering lock. It was quite impressive.
