Yes and the tyre pressures are fine and I'm a bit OCD when it comes to that. A quick geo check is a great shout cheers.
I'm a big hypocrite though as I have been meaning to do mine since I got it 18 months ago. Problem is I don't know where to take it locally as I have very little faith in places who claim to rig the car up in 15mn as I know it takes longer for enough thoroughness and precision if you want the result and the potential adjustment to be relevant rather than half a degree the wrong way!

I've just tried all 3 settings for the steering to see which one suits me best, and I've come to the conclusion that none of them are all that great! hehe

Comfort feels too woolly I reckon, and sport and sport plus just don't feel direct enough for me personally. Maybe in time I will get more used to the steering though to be fair.

I think that I definitely prefer hydraulic steering in comparison to electric steering for sure. In general driving I don't mind the steering in fairness, but it just doesn't feel quite right when you start to push on a bit for me.

You know what, I hate to say it but the steering is utter utter ste, I’m not going to pretend I’m a good driver nor am I going to pretend I know what proper steering feels like but all I know is, the steering in the M4 does not feel right at all! Mid corner I’m turning hard and the steering feels so numb, I finally know what car reviewers mean when they criticize the steering. You feel the car turning, you know you’re in control of the turn but you have absolutely no feel which doesn’t inspire confidence at all, it just doesn’t feel connected.

The plot thickens as my brothers mK8 Golf R feels more stable and planted at high speeds, and I’m ashamed to admit it as this is PH, but even at reckless driving, the Golf feels so much more safer and easier to do high speeds in, I’m talking 120+. There is a long stretch of road on the A3 near where I live and it’s empty at midnight and I’ve never gone past 140 mph in my M4 as it just doesn’t feel right where as I’ve done 150 in my Civic Type R and I only lifted off because I ran out of road. I haven’t taken my brothers Golf there but I reckon I can easily hit the limiter.

I can’t pin point what it is exactly but the M4 just doesn’t feel that safe doing high speeds and I think it has a lot to do with the steering.

Having said that, the Golf R has the same issue of lacking feel in the bends but it does feel more planted. Yes it’s AWD but I don’t drive my M4 like an idiot where it’s losing traction.

While I’m here I’ll give an update on the M4, a trader has taken it off my hands to sell, he said anything over 36k, he keeps, the rest is mine. I paid 34 for it with a 6k loan, the settlement figure is 26,800, I done the maths, I’ll get around 9k back. I’ll get my monthly payments back and the fuel I paid which is around 85£ a week over 3 months. Yes all the other used cars have inflated but I’ve decided to go back to basics. I’m looking at FN2 Civic Type R’s for 4k and just have a laugh in that, I’ll be able to properly enjoy myself as frankly, the M4 is just too much of an animal.

It saddens me to see it go however I expected and prepared myself to lose 4k after a years ownership as that’s what I usually pay to lease my cars so when I was offered my money back, it was a no brainer plus I love Honda’s, ask Nick wink

Tbh given your less than glowing feedback on it since you bought it, knowing your selling it comes as no surprise.

Enjoy the fn2 and good luck with the sale!

Yes and the steering is definitely its weak link. I didn't notice it as first, but when I pushed on the other day up to around 120 down a nice road that I know well, I was shocked at how much movement the steering wheel had and how difficult it was to get much feedback to what the car was doing on the front end. It was quite unnerving, and I've driven all the other cars I've had in recent times down the same road and at a similar speed and I've not noticed that problem in those.

Sorry to hear that the M4 is going because I know how much you really wanted one in the first place. Good luck going forward with the Civic though. drivingthumbup

BMW's are known for being very stable at high speeds , its a usp in Germany and they are tested on the autobahn for this very reason , as I said before you should get the geometry checked properly something isnt right

I've always really liked that about a BMW, and I remember once seeing 165 on the clock in my E92 M3 and it was stable and as solid as a rock(on a nice smooth straight road). The F82 M4 feels completely different to that though, and down my favourite country road the E92 M3 felt great, whereas the M4 wants to dart all over the place over the cambers in the road though.

For me personally the chassis/suspension/steering is much better in the E92 M3 in comparison to the F82 M4. Or as you mention the geometry is just too sensitive/can get upset too easily in the M4 perhaps.

I've taken mine up to 140mph at Bedford Autodrome and can't say the steering caused me any concern.

My one and only modification is some Millway camber plates to add some adjustment up front and they've really improved the front turn in.

Would certainly echo all comments on the steering feel, if it had the feel of my old E46 or 2005 Impreza STI would be great, re the high speed stability i haven’t felt uncomfortable at all at very high speed mine is a late 2019 f82 Comp if that makes any difference, My TWR XJS V12 at 145 got the sphincter twitching i don’t mind telling you !!

Feel is somewhat different to stability. The steering is indeed quite numb but the body can sometimes develop other ways to feel what's happening at the contact patch, including through the seat of your pants.

But those cars are inherently very stable and shouldn't require constant, sttering inputs. Again, a geo check is crucial if things don't feel right. They often don't even come properly aligned from the factory, so what hope is there after a few hits on kerbs or potholes?

Based on pretty much every post you've ever posted on here when talking about your driving, regardless of what car it has been in, you sound like an absolute danger on the road who really should not step inside a car with any performance until you've had some proper tuition. It just highlights further to me and everyone else how careful you have to be on the road because you don't know what other idiots might be about.

This thread has me with my head in my hands. Great the OP got to try his hand in his hero car but definitely seems like this was playing top trumps. I echo the last post, I think everyone has come off lightly here!

(And a good pointer to avoid the A3 at night)

Nick, I don’t know where you’re based, but I can highly recommend Centre Gravity in Atherstone, Warwickshire. It’s far from cheap, but after two crap alignments on my M140i, they had it driving really well. My friend travelled all the way from Knaresborough for them to sort his MINI GPII.

Pretty strange behavior for the Op to publicly post doing 150mph on the A3 too yikes Perhaps he meant to say 150 leptons which no one understands

That is such good advice. They are a brilliant outfit indeed and have made a success of a gap in the market. Their value is both their advice and the quality of the work. Sadly they are a bit far as I am in Sussex and in fairness I have a good idea of the toe and camber values I want to get to. I'll probably use one of the motorsport outfits that I know in the end but thx so much for the tip.

Crikey at this part lol, just searching threads to see what people have said on personal loans and find this. What are you driving now, OP?
