Does anyone have thoughts on this ? Pic is the NSF lower wing. The car is a X5M 2018 with 19k miles.

The paint isn't broken on all the spots, it's actually in the paint by looks of it.

Looks like it’s had a bad respray on the wing and door.

I've owned it since new and hasn't had paint to my knowledge unless at the dealer/factory prior to handover. It was built to order by me also so not one that was sitting around in a compound.

The pebble rash I've seen is a common problem, it's similar on the the OSF Door aswell.

What makes you say bad respray the rash or the spots themselves ?

The first wing pic looks to have a laquer run. The door looks like paint is flaking off too easily from small stone damage. (I may be completely wrong, just looking at the pics). I don’t know what the black marks are.

If a bit of tar remover doesn't get rid of it then I would query BMWs paint warranty.

That paint is "blistering" poor respray IMO. Just because you bought it new does not mean it's not been touched up. Many come off the ships with dings and dents, that's why there is a paintshop on/near the docks.

Thanks for the comments.

Common theme seems to be respray but what would cause the dark blue spots in a respray though ?

It's got a trip to the dealers at the weekend anyway, any intel prior to this would be appreciated.

The laquer run was some water after I had washed it. I checked again just in case !

Try some fallout/tar remover on those black marks or just take it to the stealers

It’s def not tar. It’s had tar remover on it with no effect.

It’s almost like mini craters in the paintwork.

See what the dealer says.

The dealers bodyshop initially said they would repair under warranty. Then declined and stated it was stone chips with not much substance behind it.

I was considering selling the car prior to this anyway and this just made my mind up, so off it went yesterday.

Thanks for the update and that's a pity.

Stone chips is BMW's get-out for any paint issue it seems. Why would stone chips leave black marks like that? I've got a couple of stone chips and they look nothing like that.

Did I see another thread from you about buying a different X model?

Yes I wasn't impressed and they couldn't fully explain the colour change. I could probably have taken it higher and pursued over time with a better outcome, if I was keeping it.

You're correct I posted elsewhere regards an upgrade to the X7, I'll give the country a bit of time to get out of lockdown/back on it's feet before taking another step.

Well, I have a Silverstone II M4 Comp Pack, and I haven’t had any issues like that.

I just rembered as I saw this thread pop up again - the wings on F15s and I presume F85s are made of plastic, black plastic:
https://www.partbusters.co.uk/bmw-x5-f15-2014-on-w...

Not sure if that adds anything to the thread though!

BMW did state as the wing is plastic, it flexes, this means the paint cracks hence this may cause the discolouring due to the basecoat cracking, where as with metal it takes a chip because it won't flex. Could be completely BS and like I say would've have pushed further if I was keeping the car.

It was for sale in the york area a good few weeks back but now sold by looks of things.
