E85 Z4 Powerfold or no...? How to check..?
Discussion
Afternoon all,
So the OH has a 2003 Z4 for the summer jobs and it's been disconnected from the battery for some time. I reconnected it for the first time last week end and the door mirrors started to cycle up/down (in/out?). Locking and unlocking the car stopped this, but it was curious (and only just occurred to me!) because as far as we were concerned the car didn't have powerfold mirrors! They don't fold on locking, and there doesn't appear to be a switch to manually power fold.
So, clearly they have the motors in the mirror head - am I looking for a module to enable them on locking? A switchpack to enable manual setting of them? Or do they just need coding...?
Many thanks!

So where they actually moving like powerfold mirrors do, or was it just the mirror glass moving? So the OH has a 2003 Z4 for the summer jobs and it's been disconnected from the battery for some time. IIRC you'll need powerfold mirrors & the switch pack too for full powerfold mirror functionality. But if you've already got powerfold mirrors, maybe someones swapped out the switch pack with the wrong one?

Yes, it was the whole mirror head moving/cycling not just the glass.
Hmmm... Might be worthwhile seeing if you can source the correct switch pack.Sounds like you've folding mirrors; just odd that the switchpack is wrong; unless it's a different set up/location in the Z4?!
If you can find a working vin decoder you should be able to get the complete build sheet. this will tell you if they were fitted when new.
Try here for some links to vin decoder.

It's more than likely possible to code them to do different things at different times if they are fitted.
It's also possible that when the car was being built they only had mirrors with motors, so fitted those.

I've had three E86s in the last 6 years so for my sins I spend a lot of time on z4forum.
From what I've read on there all 2003 and early 2004 E85s were pre-wired for all the options, like cruise, heated seats, etc. so it's all just plug and play. Maybe they also fitted the power-fold mirror motors too, just not the switch!
If so you may have a nice cheap upgrade option, especially as power-fold mirrors seem to be rare on any E85/6.

I think you are right in that the early build E85 cars were wired for everything even if it wasn’t fitted to the car From what I've read on there all 2003 and early 2004 E85s were pre-wired for all the options, like cruise, heated seats, etc. so it's all just plug and play. You could probably code them to fold on locking but would have no ability to manually fold/unfold them So the OH has a 2003 Z4 for the summer jobs and it's been disconnected from the battery for some time. Though coding options are very light on the E85
