Help needed on M2 buying advice
Discussion
Hi all,
Appreciate your help here.
I have just sold my Golf R due to the crazy prices of used cars, where I got more than I paid for it.
Looking to get into an M2. Budget is 35K. I am buying outright and don't really want to borrow any extra. I am torn between going for a really clean, low mileage M2 LCI, or do I go for an M2 competition, which will be higher mileage and probably not as good condition wise.
Ideally I'd like a manual and will probably only do 5000 miles per annum, with may 2 track days per year
Anything else to look out for? Will obviously look for high spec where possible
Thanks in advance

If you are planning on modding for more power the Comp is the way to go with just a map you'll see 520bhp/700nm, the non Comp will take a hell of a lot more ££ to get near that which would go towards a Comp initial purchase price.
Both cars are superb in standard trim with very little to be excellent on track, mine has Goodridge lines, decent pads and decent fluid, lowered and wheel spacers and I was blown away by how good it was compared tomy previous Clubsport spec V8 M3 Coupe (AP's all round, Nitron coilovers etc etc)....

You sold the R due to the high used prices?! Hope you weren't too disappointed by the fact M2's have gone up even more.....Man maths I guess......Appreciate your help here.

It would be worth driving both but the Comp is the better car and worth the extra.

Thanks. Not looking for massive power, as it will mainly be used as a road car and the standard M2 will have enough for that

Thanks. I’m aware used M2 prices have gone up as well. I work from home and have another car, so happy to wait a while for the ‘bubble to burst’ and then pick one upIt would be worth driving both but the Comp is the better car and worth the extra.
For £35k and with the requirement of a manual I think you're best looking at the LCI, they're very good cars and if the stock power is enough I wouldn't chase a Competition. Manual Competitions cars are well into the 40's and as mentioned quite rare so finding one with enough miles to get into your price bracket will be challenging
this one went cheap no? https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2018-bmw-m2-lc... (even with the fee?)
was tempted to but a bid on myself

£31k for a modded one on v-car.No thanks!! The market is nuts. That's £25k max surely
Manual comps on higher miles start at 38k. That’s for a 68 plate. There also aren’t many for sale at all!
Even LCI’s are moving up the 30’s now.
You’re best waiting until later in the year if you want to maximise profits from your Golf. Otherwise I can see M2’s having risen more than Golf’s currently.

I actually sold my DCT M2 Competition earlier this week, as I've had a change of circumstances and need the money for something else. Deal was done within an hour by a specialist performance car garage who came to pick up the car that afternoon who said the market is crazy right now with lack of supply of new cars and good used stock hard to come by - for what it's worth in 12 months and 15,000 miles i only lost £1500 which shows you how well they've done. I also asked him about the manual car premium and he was of the view that they are being listed for big numbers over DCT cars but not actually selling... anyone here actually bought or sold a manual car in the last 3 months and did you end up getting / paying a big premium?
