I think they missed a trick not giving the F82 M4 the CSL treatment that was one of the lightest modern generations coming in at around 1500KG DIN it was only 30kg heavier than the e46 M3 and 125KG lighter than the lightened G82 CSL.
I echo this as well big time. thumbup

I didn’t expect to think it much of a looker, but that is staggeringly awful.

I bought an E46 M3CSL at 63k new and lost 30k in 18 months ... they couldn't sell them and dealer cars with 1500 miles on the clock were selling at 42k ...

This is possibly the ugliest heaviest CSL type car I have ever seen ... I currently own an F80CS and this CSL leaves me absolutely cold.

Compact. No. Lightweight. No. Track focussed. No. Stripped back with little to go wrong (think 964RS). No. Economical. No. Too fast ... maybe.

Why ?

I am truly not trying to pick a fight .... ??
It was never going to be compact when it’s based on an M4, the new G8x models are just bigger. I agree that it’s not a lightweight car but it is quite a lot lighter than the standard car. I think saying it’s not track focussed is a little harsh. When you look at the spec, they have done quite a lot to the car to make it perform better on track. I can’t remember all of what was done to the E46 CSL but I reckon what they’ve done here is at least similar, so if you feel that the E46 CSL was track focussed then this should be too.

I don’t think anybody buys these types of car for their economy (I certainly wouldn’t) but an average of around 28MPG for a car that has 550hp seems pretty reasonable to me.

In black, I think it looks mean - like the “Batmobile”. 😂.

The thing is I don’t really mind how the M4 looks. It’s not a pretty car by any stretch of the imagination but on the road (with a number plate) it’s OK. Whereas there are other cars like the Alfa Romeo Giulia which are simply gorgeous until you see them with a number plate and you think “hmmm… that’s ruined it”. Still a lovely looking car but nowhere near as nice as it is without a number plate.

I think it’s nice that BMW bothered to make this car at all. New springs, helper springs, retuned dampers, carbon ceramics, MPSC2Rs, specially designed lightweight seats, better joints to enhance feel, more power, higher speed limiter, new aero, reduced sound deadening - a lot has gone into it. And BMW has been in a rich seam of form recently, their cars have performed exceptionally well in road tests, M5 CS won EVO car of the year and the M3 Xdrive placed very high too! This should be a really great bit of kit. (In spite of looks, weight etc).

I think 1625KG is ok given it’s size. That’s still lighter than my old E92M3.

It comes with everything on it too! So no real options to speak of. Anyway, there are 600 on a list with BMW waiting to see if they’ll be one of the lucky 100, so let’s see what happens.
Regarding the 600 wait list, how do you know this?

Is this 600 figure for the UK market, or global?

It really is isn’t it. Laughably awful. M4CS of old was nice. E46 CS lovely. CSL lovely. Obviously I love the E92 (I have one) but the orange track version wasn’t a looker. This “CSL” reminds me of the Civic Type R with the three exhausts.

All that said, the original CSL was hardly a shrinking violet so perhaps this is a true return to form!

Economical ? I was simply trying to illustrate the reasons for buying a car, no a car at this price point does not need to be very economical.

Track focussed ? Maybe it is more track focussed than an M4 Competition ... I agree that MPSCup2R tyres suggests that they are trying to eke out a fab lap time, but in principal a barge of this weight will annihilate consumables.

Heaven knows the 991.2 GT3RS is an expensive beast to drive fast ... and that was built to be a track car at a lardy 1420 Kilos kerb weight ... this is 1/5th tonne more ?

If I was in for one I’d tone it down a few notches and lose the red highlights which are optional. It’s a shame it’s not offered in more colours but I believe the E46 was also only offered in 3 colours….?

Two, silver grey and sapphire black. The latter being the faster of the two of course. wink

New one is a dog dinner ... only mildly acceptable in dark colours to hide its face. Back end actually looks batter than the M4 with that higher rear lip.

No hofmeister kink - just wrong. Current M3/M4 don't look like BMWs IMO,

According to the BMW configurator, which now has this on it, white and black only are offered; no grey. Nothing to say the red stripes can be deleted but will ask tomorrow as have a call scheduled to discuss.
Asked initially whether availability an issue; seems not although 9 to 12 month lead stated…

There's a check box called model specific design elements that appears to remove most of the stripes.
