Hello all,

Currently have an Audi S4 Avant which I switched to about 6 months ago and just haven't really clicked with it so looking to replace it with something with a bit more 'character' in a similar price range (c.£25-35k).

The F10 M5 would seem to tick a lot of boxes and be good value for money but the slight complication is we have a little one on the way in November and this is our main family car (wife has a 5 door Fiesta).

Those who have owned an M5 of this era, how do they do as family cars? Obviously they have big boots but how much of a pain is it not having the estate opening? The ones I'm looking at have the split folding seat option so that should cover tip runs.

Space wise should be fine, I was using a E60 550i with 2x kids and was still enough room for family holidays, the boot really is cavernous for a sedan. Only once they got older that it got tight for space. Rear facing baby seat fitted well, although leg space for passenger/driver in front was reduced, I (6ft3) could still sit reasonably comfy in front of it.

F10 M5 is larger again I believe, so shouldn't be any issue there.

No problems here. I've owned a 2015 LCI car from new, nearly 150k on the clock now and it's coped with front line family duties very well over the years. Currently have a toddler and have no problems with the seat and various gubbins. Split folding seats are a must for practicality.

It's a brilliant family car. I've had mine for 10 years. When all 3 of my kids were small(ish), it was perfect. Now that they're all fully grown teenagers, the middle seat is a bit of a squeeze and not ideal for long journeys. But they used to say the same of my wife's e70 X5. The two main passenger seats are v comfy though.

The boot is very generous and through load would be great; unfortunately I didn't spec it and wish I had.

I had a F10 M5 as a family car. It will be fine. The boot is huge, just make sure you get the folding seats.

I have an F19 M5 as a family car with a 4 year old and a 2 month old. Works fine .... touch tight with the rear facing baby seat behind me (I'm 6ft) but OK
