I was talking about looks, not the way it goes; which'll obviously be the only thing all the sycophant 'journos' can say anything positive about as it's such a friggin munter in the eyes of most. He was marginally better when he was blatting across Snake Pass at 100mph getting done by the cops, at least he was
a bit edgy back then.
I think it looks great. I bet it will drive even better even if that quickly becomes irrelevant if you don't like the way it looks I guess.

As for "most", that is also pretty irrelevant unless of course you form your views on the way something looks based on what other people thing of course.

I'd rather be driving something that drives great AND LOOKS GREAT, esp if it's £61k, both to me (i.e. looking back at it when going in the house, sad though that is lol), and to others. Judging books by cover, you betcha! biggrin

Indeed, and that's probably why the new M2 is such an appealing proposition for me. Looks great, drives great (hopefully!!)

Get yourself down to Specsavers Nick, must be a serious problem there. All the best with it.

I use Vision Express and their most high end varifocals, not cheap mind you.

The other plausible, albeit quite novel, explanation to the serious problem may simply be that looks are subjective.

On the other hand if I am indeed the only person to like the looks of them, they will be VERY cheap, very quickly.

Exactly this ^^^^^^
BMW car design has always pushed the envelope and they should be applauded for that, what's the point of bringing out a new model if it looks principally the same as what we're already used to? Safe but boring that's what LCI is for. Remember how much people moaned about the Bangle era of cars E60 and E63 but they soon became desirable judging by the number that were bought. I had an E63 and absolutely loved the looks, they still look very individual and special. They also moaned about the grill on the new M3 and M4 but they look great in the flesh IMO.

Maybe you and I Nick are the only ones with decent eyesight rofl

Steve do you remember when the 1 series Coupe was launched?

The outrage on PH was far worse than this.

I thought it looked awful too.

5 years after that I was smoking around in one thinking it looked amazing, and I still do. I don't know how they do that but that is a very BMW thing.

I really like it and think it’ll look brilliant in the flesh! I haven’t like any since the E92 M3 and the E46 M3 CSL was a high point for me.

Must need my eyes tested too..

Like everything about it and have order no1 with my dealer!
Full spec no messing around (although will be auto)

Main deliberation is colour - down for grey at the moment but may change my mind…

I agree it looks "OK" but thats about it doesnt wow or look beautiful, why make a car that divides people on if it looks great when you can make a car that looks great to nearly everyone?

I dont remember anyone saying the E36 M3, E46 M3, F80 M3, 1M looked terrible? they all arguably by nearly everyone looked great! Not making a car look like the old one because it might look too similar seems odd and counter productive to me.

I think they missed a trick with this one, being different doesnt mean being better. It really needs to drive great (which I think it fortunately will) to make up for the exterior. it will sell like hot cakes I am sure and tbf the price point isnt too bad in todays terms, I will give BMW credit for still making a manual, 460bhp RWD car at this price point, we should be at least grateful for this whatever it looks like.

I am still not keen on the looks to be honest. The only colour that looks decent from the lineup is black as it hides the awkward square shapes on the front and rear bumper. If I went for a black car I would have to get it wrapped in PPF as they are an utter nightmare to keep clean. I will have to go and see one at a dealership but I actually prefer the look of the G80 M3.

Red doesn’t help it to my eyes. Black and filthy will hide it / suit it best.

Without having the intention of sparking another round of how people love/hate the looks (although this might be inevitable!), thought I'd revive this thread to highlight that there's lots of new content on Bimmerpost and Youtube now that the US seems to be gearing up for the launch of the new M2

I just have no interest in this car whatsoever. It’s going to date really badly. My OG M2 looked good when it was released and it looks good now. It’s a future classic. No way am I changing it for this.

I watched a joe Achilles video once on youtube, about 6 years ago. It was fking dull. He seemed to have perfected the art of saying very little that’s actually meaningful, nothing that is original, and somehow still filling 10 minutes with speaking. It was like someone edited all the least original bits of 90s Top Gear car reviews together into one video. Maybe he’s improved.
Stopped watching him a while back too. He's just a BMW echo chamber for people who want to watch someone, in fairly boring and uninteresting way, tell them how good whatever BMW he's in at the moment happens to be. He's also in bed with that West London BMW dealer too.

Still... he's got dick loads of subscribers and making long money, so can't imagine he cares what anyone else thinks.

They still don't have a G87-specific sub-forum then? Also, what's with keeping it under wraps in the model finder this far after Launch?

Maybe it will become Uber-collectible on the strength ohfhaving been deleted from the range at launch. Can only hope
