Is there much of a difference between a Z4M and a 3.0i..?

As alluded to earlier, there are two versions of the 3.0 engine available - one with 231bhp and one with 250-odd (exact figures escape me).
Both pretty nippy, but neither properly rapid.
The //M engine is a peach. If they'd offered SMG as an option on it I'd have one sitting outside right now, instead of a 3.0 auto.
Dan, where in the world was this elusive 250bhp Z4 3.0 sold? BMW have NEVER quoted more than the standard 231bhp for a Z4 3.0 - ever. Alpina & AC Schnitzer certainly have - but they are completely unique builds. Both pretty nippy, but neither properly rapid.

It's also listed in the brochure - http://www.bmwz4roadster.net/brochure/2007_E85-E86... - on page 25, the last 2 columns for the 3.0si.

Your going in with the right budget you can take your pick of the best at that price.
Things to watch as you rightly say the 1200 mile service is essential. Check which service is due next and how many miles to go till it's due. You can ring a dedicated bmw phone line to double check service history as it's quite common for books not go be stamped. Watch out for ex fleet cars. 50% of the cars I enquired about were ex fleet with imminent inspection 2 serices due.
Petrol wise expect 20 mpg and you can eek 300 miles out of a tank but 200 is probably nearer. 45 quid should fill her up.
The MPG seems near identical to my Impreza then.Things to watch as you rightly say the 1200 mile service is essential. Check which service is due next and how many miles to go till it's due. It seems my difficulty is going to be finding a good one to really hook me in.
Thanks for all your help so far chaps. It's very much appreciated. apart from the z4-forum, is there anywhere else I can read up and absorb all the info on these cars..?
Bought my Z4MC yesterday!!
All i'll say is that I think i'm in love , I thought my 996 was quick but !! What a car!!
I had been searching for months for the right car and doing all the research, it is so much more than I expected!
If you want any info on how I went about it & what I ended up with, PM me.
Happy hunting!!

Sorry, wasn't explicit enough - the two versions of the 3.0 are nippy but not mega-rapid, the //M version is!

The Z4 he drove had M suspension, so I'd assume it has the same struts...is this not true?
No I think the only part the front suspension shares on the two cars is the wishbone, here's a few pics to illustrate the difference.Z4M
Z4 (including those fitted with M/sports suspension)
There rear suspension is also similar in that it shares very few parts between the two cars.

Of course there's the dark horse - Alpina Roadster S...
I had one for just over a year, great straight line speed.. BUT get to a bend and the car left nervous - spent lots of ££££ on suspension, strut braces, anti roll bars, etc, but never fully cured the problem. Now have the Z4MC for 18 mnths and no mods at all - car feels spot on!!! I agree with all the above threads, there's a clear distinction between "M" and non M cars....

What are the proper weights of the Z4M Coupe and Roadster as i thought the Roadster was 60kg heavier than the Coupe?
I was informed that the Coupe was slightly heavier than the Roadster - which is normally the other way round! Presumably because it was designed as a Roadster first?Slurms said:

Have you considered the Z3 M Roadster instead? 1425kg 321 bhp, no traction control. thank you very much. Awsome car
Isn't the rear suspension setup the weakness of this car? Derived from the E30? So quite old in comparison?Coming from an Elise, i can honestly say that the Z3 is more than capable around the twisties.

...I might have hunted down a nice 3.0si Coupe.. Still over the moon with the ///M though...
I'm interested in this? Why would you have looked for the 3.0Si over the M? I'm only interested as I've read that the 3.0 is the easier car to live with day to day and I'm keen to get a balanced opinion as opposed to a biased one....?Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
