Lads just wondering is it possible for a main dealer to remove top speed limiter?? Is it only available from the factory?? Only 2 cars for sale on bmw.co.uk without limiter.... Cheers

Where do you want to drive it?

The limiters are not strictly at 155 mph, more like 160-165 and I can't think of a UK track where you can get over that speed in any case.
|The place where you really lose time with the limiter is the Nordschleife on the Doettinger Hoehe, but it is only a second or two.

Zod, the autobahns and some late nites/early mornings on the motorway! Just want to be able to max it, mate has GT2, 155mph wont be enough!! I think the E46 speedos over read a bit. Mate had one and when side by side with my old M Coupe his was showing 170mph mine 164mph, both on their limiters....

If your mate has a GT2 then a CSL won't be enough

Main dealer can do it on production of a valid race license, ecu has to be sent to germany so expect a 3 week ish period without a car. Only way to do it without losing the warrenty, if you don't care about that then dms or thorney motorsport will be able to derestrict it for you.

Dave, mine is factory unrestricted and reached 193 mph (7400rpm in 6th) on the autobahn, so perhaps a true 185mph. As Nathan says, that's not enough to take on a GT2, but it's probably around 20mph more than a speed-limited CSL will reach.

Well, Germany does change things. The only time I have ever really worried about the limiter was when I lived in Germany and had an M3. On early morning drives on the A3 to Cologne, the limiter was pretty irritating on the long straights.
