Mazda - hear our plea for a 210Bhp MX5!!!

Dear Mazda - Caterham get a rorty, spitting 210Bhp out of the Duratec engine (Caterham R400), so why not stick the same engine upgrades in an MX5!?
All the current MX5 is lacking from a petrolhead's perspective, is some more fire in it's belly. Not too much, not too little, 210Bhp would be perfect I reckon. Keep the current Sport tech chassis set up, give it a rortier exhaust system and the 210Bhp Duratec motor - result - a Porsche Cayman baiter!
So Mazda, please - make it happen! It would be a great send off to the current generation.

Why would they? Just so us geeks are happy.. But, emissions will be higher.. Insurance, higher.. Less MPG.. The public won't buy it, thus Mazda won't make it. But, I've told them plenty of times they need to build one with a more powerful engine and they laugh it off
OP; You get a list of names for a performance MX5 with gurantees that they'll buy them, £1000 non refundable deposit and I'll forward it onto Mazda..
No need for a more powerful 5. Consider a lighter 5! Surely they could lose 100kg? No?
As much as we don't like the idea it seems that the target market for 5s for quite some time has been the "happy widow" crowd. To them it's a nice "sporty" little number to brighten up the driveway and trips to the salon or golf club.
This is why the after-market market seems so strong. It's a great car to personalise.

I think they were supposed to be bringing one out in a few years, but seems it's 2015 now apparently.
Never going to happen. How many of the MX5 enthusiasts buy brand new cars, very very few. They wait until the car has been owned by grandad for 5 to 6 years and then buy it for a fraction of the cost. Lets face it if I had +£20K to spend on a car I doubt I'd buy a brand new MX5, even if it did have 210bhp.
Besides who says they need more power, I'm more than happy with the 260bhp mine's currently producing.

Not sure where I stand on this. More power will be more expensive to run over all, less will be bought new, then used values stay higher across the board, supply and demand and all that (i think!). The attraction for me with the MX5 is that it is a relatively 'normal' car to run. Similar mpg, insurance, tax etc. No rare or unusual parts that require specialist knowledge etc. Not scary to drive for the novice and easy to enjoy at legal speeds.
If you want more power its all there in the after market.........

Nail. Head, really... We just need to make sure they keep churning out cars that can be / can handle the upgrades
Isn't there a new MX5 due out next year? If so, then it wouldn't make sense for them to change the current model now. I'm sure I've read that the remit of the new car is to be more like the Mk1, smaller and lighter, so I can't see them going for a more powerful engine than the current one.
