Rocketeer Jag 3.0 V6 conversion
Discussion
Ooooh it is definately one of those "fk it why not" upgrades, and tbh once the Suspension is done in mine this winter "if" the engine ever let go - I would look at writing a cheque to have it done by the guys at Rocketeer (especially if the retention of value)

Better suspension setup, stiffer shell, nicer interior, better roof, better gearbox and diff (if you pick the right spec mk2).
Downsides are looks (although I do think a nb can look really bloody nice when done subtle) and lack of childish (which is not to insult it!) glee when flashing headlights. Oh, and chassis rails - but I long ago resigned myself that to own a MX5 is to commit to treating sills and rails as being five year lifed components...

Yes, quite. I guess the pre-conversion car is worth about £2k, the cost of the conversion is about £8k, and generally, mods to cars lose half their value so that's a £6k car for £12k but I'm still tempted. Agree about wanting the pop-up headlights.
Simon
Hmmm, cost of conversion is 8k all in ? (inc. engine for example?)Simon
And an NA with a Mohair / roof with glass back window is a good compromise too to the NA v NB
Those ITBs look cool as
I'm currently in the final stretch of a Rocketeer conversion and I don't think the maths stack up if you are looking to rationalise it but I have enjoyed every moment of the conversion.
Mine is one of the last UK MK1s and I've also taken the time to refresh all of the running gear during the process. I can't wait to get it on the road and take it to some events.

Want that ^^^ please share more / thread ?I'm currently in the final stretch of a Rocketeer conversion and I don't think the maths stack up if you are looking to rationalise it but I have enjoyed every moment of the conversion.

I don't have a build thread on here but I do have a blog here on Wordpress (I hope the link is OK Mods!?)ETA - that is fking amazeballs. A beauty and I want mine doing. Now.
To that meticulous detail.
My hat truly doffed.
And all seriousness - I don't have the skillset / space to do it to that level. Do we think outsourcing that to Rocketeer would have a full resto ?Is this somthing you 'do' for you and fun? or for work ?
Must resist drinking any beer tonight before a rash decision...... But I love what I see in that Blog.

Speedweasel your blog has had me in great envy and full of Want.
That is how I would love to have my Resto'd. So much so some phone calls today.
To do properly - my man maths calculator was hoping I could chid myself that it could be circa £7.5k or so.
Seems I am wide of the mark to have as thorough a job and circa £15k all in for mechanical and running gear (the car is solid bodywork wise)
I'd understand if you'd rather not add it all up - but am I close ?
Still envious and thinking how I can validate the expense

I am just an enthusiastic amateur but I do have an engineering back ground. I have just taken my time.
Regards to cost. I do know how much mine has cost so far and I'm not going to divulge that here but the conversion kit was ~£7000 and on top of that I purchased a fully rebuilt engine from Rocketeer. What you spend (from a DIY or a turnkey perspective) on top of this is entirely up to you and I guess depends on the state of your donor car. As I said before, financially it's not a hugely rational decision. Your 7.5k is too low but I imagine you could be on the road for less than 15k
The want has not disappeared for this myself.
Just helped a mate pick up his 718 / Boxster S.
Rather pleased with himself and the performance we established that a decent rocketeer would pip it in the power/weight of 260 v 240 bhp / tonne.
Accelerates the Want !!
Thank heavens for Lockdown or I'd be off to see and visit my elderly parents (who live about 10 miles from Hungerford )

Great build thread - bookmarked! Ohlins...v.exotic - drove mine gently for a brief shakedown - dampers were shot tbh - got me thinking Anyway video of car on first drive here - still work to do but first impressions are v.encouraging!
I called in at basset down balancing (rocketeer guys) a couple of days ago for them to inspect my turbo mk1 and also for me to have a nosey about. Lovely guys and very knowledgable and friendly. Gave me 40 mins of their time and experience FOC and some good advice. Had a look over a fully built up rocketeer v6 on their engine dyno and had a chat about it, lovely engineering and over all quality. I only live a couple of miles from them and see their mk2 test car around semi regularly. Hopefully I’ll get out in their test car at some point.
