Took a 2007 sport round Blyton Park yesterday - first time I had ever driven an MX5 and in the wet, with the DSC off, it was an absolute hoot. I loved it.

inevitably I've started looking for one hehe - I have seen a couple near me that look good but they are at 92k and 100k mileage wise. Mechanicals and bodywork look good, but should I be concerned about the mileages?

I'll only use it on track and light summer hooning, so I won't be adding tons of miles myself. Any serious fails at that sort of mileage?

Make sure it has had full servicing every year, if not the piston rings may be crap due to lack of oil which in turn means if you don't check the oil levels often the car may be or may end up being run on dangerously low levels of the stuff. This in turn can result in the bottom end going as the early engines (which a 2007 has) are soft as ste. The updated models have stronger forged cranks and stuff.
Other than that you'll see general wear and tear at that age, coolant hoses, radiators, batteries etc may start failing but nothing you wouldn't expect on any car of that age. The engine if looked after properly will be as hard as nails.
Check for bad rust underneath as well, bubbling wheel arches can hide worse underneath, underside of the bootlids can oxidise and be a bit crappy but in the main the rust issues aren't nearly as bad as the NA and NB

My early (05/55) Mk3 is past 120,000 miles without any major dramas (I've cursed it now!). I've seen to a few minor items (I've a thread running in Readers' Cars) but it's mostly consumables. As above, keep on top of the oil - invest in a Mk3.5 dipstick which you have half a chance of reading to make sure it's got enough (mx5parts have one, it's a Ford part).
