A Mk1 S-Limited, on a K plate with just over 100k (miles) and in good condition without rust?

Been out of the MX5 loop for a few years and trying to get a handle on values.

No more than £2,500 I'd say

Just to be clear, I'm buying, not selling.

2.5k? I thought Good Mk1s were going up?

100k is a pretty high mileage, obviously they can go forever but 100k is never going to be worthy of a high price.

What's it advertised for?

It's a K registration, 100k is low, surely?

Advertised for 3k

MK1 values are only going one way, and thats up.

The genuine ltd editions ones will gain more due to exclusivity. Ones such as RS-ltd, S-ltd and R-ltd are ones to look for. Does it has most of its original parts/wheels/interior etc ? These ones will go up more if not been molested by boy racers with wide arches etc

is it the one on facebook? If so it is worth 3k as far as i see. I have no connection to seller, but have a S-ltd of my own undergoing a refurb...

oh and 100k miles on a 25 year old car is nothing. 4K a year?

Buy any MX-5 on body condition, not mileage... Engines are reliable and if fail are easy to source and replace, rot is much more tricky to sort...

No, I don't have Facebook. Any chance you could PM me a link to the car you're talking about?

If the body is properly sound then 2 to 3k sounds entirely reasonable, all the mechanicals are very easy and pretty cheap to sort especially if you can DIY it. As someone said above, finding a rust free one is tricky so if it really is rust free and solid then its worth the money.

You've completely misunderstood my post...and not quoted the vital bit of it. If it's over 100k not matter what the spec or limited editions it's never going to be worth loads.

Seems my initial estimate of £2.5k was pretty accurate too...

Not quite an update, but in my searches, I’m seeing a LOT of Mk2.5 cars for sale with the asking well over £3k, with quite a few at £4k+

Admittedly, these seem to be mostly very low miles and in very good condition, but still – who’s gonna pay that for a Mk2.5?!

Or am I out of touch?

Are they private sales or at dealers. I often look at those prices and think the dealers are taking advantage of people who don't know much about car prices!

Quite a few are private, surprisingly - which is what prompted me to ask the question.

You're answering your own question there.

MX5's will high mileages will mean they will have probably been out in all weather conditions so either they've had rust repairs done or they are needing them. A lot of owners and garages have bodged these repairs too...so the rust comes back but worse!

Not being obtuse but what question of my own have I answered with the part you have made bold?

What I'm asking is - while I understand why the cars are being priced at that - ie low miles and good condition, are folk actually paying that?

I genuinely didn't think there was much of a market for £3k+ MK2.5 cars.

Mk2.5s are pretty alright really, better interior slightly more refined. So clean ones do seem to go for that much unless folk selling end up backing down on the price.

I picked up a pretty tidy MK2.5 for only £1,400 but was just lucky because it could have sold for £3k easily

Basically, I'm trying to work out if I'll take a bath in buying a good 2.5 for 3.5k or more...
