Water getting into boot--rain rail?

Mk 2 NB 1800.

Have noticed water appearing in the battery well in the boot.

After reading up I am suspecting the rain rail thing ?

Is this an easy/cheap job to do ?

Could be lots of things, check the seals round the rear lights first if you haven't already and also the drain holes the rain rail goes into (just behind the seat belt towers)
Out of interest do you park your car on a slope at night? If you are facing up hill when you park it the rain rail doesn't drain forwards like it should and if the rain is really heavy it can get overwhelmed.

The NB should have the later rubber rain rail which are generally more reliable than the early more brittle ones, although I have seen them come apart. new rails are about £100 I think, not hugely difficult to replace but fiddly and take a bit of fine tuning to get tension right. personally I would check everything else first!

Thanks, I checked the drain holes with a 'trombone' brush so they are clear.
Will check around the lights, but the water just seems to appear in the battery cavity, can't see any run marks.

I do park the car outside on a very slight uphill gradient. !!
So will experiment with the other way.

Not sure if NBs suffer as NAs do, but i found the grommet around the arial on mine had perished, this was letting quite a bit of water in alongside the failed rear light gaskets
