Had to go and collect my hardtop from a friend's garage at the weekend which means I'm going to need to knock up some pulley storage for the garage roof. I do like the aesthetics of a hardtop, but I must have only driven it a handful of miles with the roof up since I bought it.

I’ve had 3 MX5s including the exact one you have here (arctic?). I loved them so much, but absolutely hated driving them with the roof up. It’s a horrible cramped dark experience, the complete opposite of it down.I had the hardtop strapped to my garage roof for years and never ever used it.
That’s a beaut and an unusual (and very attractive) colour..!
Here’s ours. Acquired 12 months ago from my FIL who decided he was too old to use it. 2010 1.8 with cloth interior, so as basic as they come.
Not a colour I would have chosen or even spec, but it’s done hardly any miles (40k when we got it) and cost next to nothing to buy. It’s had some work done (new rear springs, repainted wheels, scuttle grommet leak fixed). Needs a bloody good machine polish.
We had a 2.5 Sport years ago (pre-parenthood) which was so much fun. This one makes middle aged me feel fun and youthful again. Which is perfect.

I actually think MX-5s are at their best when they're basic. It keeps with the ethos of the car. I was considering getting an earlier example with just the 1.5, cloth seats etc.

Thanks Ben. Hopefully I get a chance to bring it to SS - it's been way too long since my last one. It's just such a shame the ND3 got rid of the "fang" DRLs. It was such a distinctive signature. You instantly knew when an MX5 was coming the other way. Well, either that or a Toyota Aygo!
After corona we didn't really need two cars and the hot hatch got a bit neglected.
I've sold that and wanted a convertible again.
After going through the usual suspects (Z4, Boxter,...) I had a short drive with an MX5 and it clicked.
I get it now. It's ffing brilliant.
So went to have a test drive in this, paid for it and picking it up Monday. It's an ND2 2L.
Stoked.
The misses and I are both about 1m80, so it's cozy but very comfortable.

Just popped some Michelin Premacys onto my car (Mk4 2.0) as the first tyre change after the factory Bridgestones.
Haven't had the chance to give a bit of welly yet but the difference to the road noise is amazing, way quieter than the factory fit. I'll give you a further update once they've been on a bit and I can see the difference in handling.
