Ever since reading Alex's thread on this I have to admit that I have been thinking about this. You can pick up a 300bhp+ 302 turnkey engine from the states for around $2500 but sadly I've no idea what the shipping costs are.

You'd also have to add i think it's 3.5% import duty and VT on top of the cost, duty and shipping.
Also, what would be the best route with regards to the fuelling? Keep the carbs or fit a fuel injection system?
Try getting a quote from Ron at STS Imports - he does regular containers.

There would also be 20% VAT to pay and a handling charge. Shipping is horrendous. I don't know for sure, but if it's $2500 in the US (you sure that is really turn key?) then you'd be looking at £2500-3800 all in to get it to the UK.

Depends. Carbs are fine and easy to install and work on at home. But a good EFI setup should offer smoother running, better starting, more power, less flat spots and better mpg.

Just to let you know I paid $900 to have a crate engine shipped to Heathrow, where I had to collect it... From memory extras were handling at around £85, import tax and VAT around £900 , but vat was 15% then too, and it was more than $2 to the £ so was well worth it back then...
Better to buy one built here at the moment from British American, Roadcraft, Real Steel etc.... all IMO of course
