Hello PH,

I'm new here. I'm currently looking for a midsize pickup in the UK that eats gasoline. Not more than 10 years old, single cab work truck. It's going to be a daily driver. I'm looking at Colorado/Canyon, Ranger, etc. Having scoured the current market over in the states, and spoken to a friend over there, the trucks I want are all sitting around $11,000+. In short, I am looking into importing myself, but would like to weigh the options having never done this before. I don't think there would be much interest from importers here because there's likely not much profit in it for them unless they whack on a huge fee, but I'd really like to know who the best people to talk to are, and who's most likely to have that sort of thing in stock. I don't imagine there's a huge demand as folks here in the UK seem to really really love diesel (pour it on their cornflakes, bathe their children in it, etc), and sitting on the wrong side of the cab in a truck that doesn't like their beloved diesel probably doesn't make sense to most limeys. This one, however, really would like a midsize, petrol-powered, work truck what for using on a daily basis. Any help would be much appreciated.

There's not much in the midsized market available. Ford don't make a US ranger anymore, the Dodge Dakota is quite a good workhorse but not many single cabs over here, speak to someone like Ron Fenton @ STS Imports for shipping, you find the vehicle & arrange to get it to his Florida place (he can probably arrange transport to there too) he'll give you an all in quote to get it here.

Thanks, Ron Fenton seems to come highly recommended. Good call on the Dakota - a "club cab" in V6 would certainly work.

I had a quadcab for 5 years, 4.7 V8 with lpg conversion, great truck, economical (equivalent of 30-35mpg) they can actually carry & tow more than a 1500 Dodge Ram as they weigh less but have around the same GVW, winner winner! They fit in a normal parking space too.

Have a word with Colin Ledsom at https://www.colinsautoexport.com/ he is English but based in Florida and will source and ship a truck for you.
I currently have my second US truck on its way over he has found for me. Great guy easy to deal with and makes it all very straight forward. He can even do any work or modifications you want before shipping it.
