Lordy
Good grief that would cause some sleepless nights for some !

Looking on the bright side though I’d probably be able to afford my TA,
I could work on it, fettle it, improve it,
And look at it !
Could actually be a cheap car to own rofl

Thing is..........if one accepts the inevitability of the £2.50 litre/£10.00 gallon and is gonna find that it really reduces your lifestyle (i.e not being able to go places/enjoy the activities you used to)......it all too easy to say "I'm going to sell it and get a late model V8 something or other that does double the mpg and has all the bells and whistles" (as indeed I have been considering for a couple of years).........the logic doesn't actually get you anywhere, 'coz the replacement 'more economical' car will still most likely cost the same at this exact moment as your 'old' one did a couple of years ago. Me? I've resigned myself to carrying on with the Vette if I don't get a buyer.......its cheap to keep (£125 insurance, no mot, zero rated tax) whereas a late model something or other will cost me probably a grand a year including insurance, tax and mot before it even moves......yeah, ok everything will have super reliable electronic gizmo's but quite possibly need specialist care if something bizarre goes wrong........ our 'old' analogue cars we can fix ourselves can't we? (or at least understand what the problem is. I've come to this conclusion spending a pleasant couple of hours on the garage trying to figure out why the friggin' hell the throttle cable does not open the carb up 100% (perhaps 90-95%) and how to fix it. Imagine that on a late model drive by wire gas pedal......

I think you could be speaking for a lot of older yank owner, been sitting on the fence with that one

for a while now, problem is we just love old cars with such a passion that the newer stuff doesn't get close,

If we all started our yank journey now we would probably be driving C6's/C7' s,Camaro ZL 1's and rhd Mustang S550's

as we couldn't afford the classic versions anyway. rolleyes

Looks great but not far off unusable.

I have a 327 SBC in my 32 Roadster and even that is way more than it needs.

Would be difficult to cope with in a well sorted muscle car i would have thought;

327 sounds about right unless drag racing, infact would be quicker on a badly surfaced road yikes

With most really high powered 'muscle cars' all that extra power over the top of one of its 'lesser' powered 'sister' cars, can to a degree be wasted in excess tyre smoke and an even greater chance of depositing the car in the roadside shrubbery. Much the same with current 'muscle' and high powered stuff.......in a lesser way and similar to a modern fighter jets unless you have your electronic 'puter controlled 'granny' on board reining back the power most drivers will have a high chance of 'enjoying' some unintended cross country driving.....

Evening all, haven't posted for ages, decided to have some self-imposed "logged off" time altho I've been reading from time to time.

Anyway, re Rosco's post above, I had a WhatsApp from a very good mate earlier who has just re-insured his 2019 Challenger Hellcat, and added me as a named driver because, in his words, it was a "no brainer" smile (no it wasn't cheaper even tho I'm ancient, but it didn't cost much). So I will be relying on the electronic granny when I take it out, as I want to wrap someone else's car round a tree even less than I want to wrap my own round a tree! He says that with it all turned off it will light the rears up at silly speeds.

Haha ,
Think most of us have a had a few bum clenching moments over the years,
Only been turtle once and that was in a Anglia !
Ironically almost adjacent to where I work,
“The Herne Bay bends”
Our equivalent of “PikesPeak ‘ biglaugh
The big difference is it ain’t up up hill ! Lol

But I know what you mean RR regarding slow mo !

Got hit head on back in 76” by a DD just outside Folkestone
No seat belts worn , I head butted the Laminated Screen
Which has a perfect imprint of my head pushed into it
Both me and my girlfriend were cut to ribbons!
70 plus stitches on me and about the same on Sarah
Plus permanent damage to my neck

We were in my Escort Sport and got hit by a Volvo Estate
Both were seriously damaged!

Crashing is no real bother if one walks away, just causes lots of paperwork, however when it actually damages you it’s a totally different thing!!
Never ever goes completely away

Putting it like that i guess that was my lucky day,

Also no seat belt and got away with a cuts and windscreen rash to my forehead.

and i limped for a week or so, ended up sitting on the grass that was poking through my open sun roof

of my upside down Porsche with the engine ticking over nicely but a bit scary watching petrol pouring out of

the front filler flap,yikes

Worst prang I had was a sub - 30 mph head-on in Wandsworth with 'er indoors driving an early 2000's Civic. I was driving at 28 mph and a mini-cab stationary and indicating to turn right across my path decided for what ever reason to turn giving me zero chance to apply brakes - hit his Toyota Carina head-on.......Airbags are supposed to activate at 19 mph.......mine didn't, so presumably the impact (once brakes were finally applied) must have been below that speed. Other driver wasn't wearing a seatbelt, nutted and broke the front screen. 'Er indoors and myself were both wearing seat belts - I was OK but badly bruised and felt like I'd been badly beaten-up the next day and had to take a couple of days off work......'er indoors much the same but struggled for several weeks from the discomfort of suspected cracked ribs. All car doors opened OK although the front drivers side that took the impact had the offside wheel jammed under the car and was undriveable. My shins were all bruised where in the impact my legs were flung forward and contacted the underside of the dashboard.
I'm going on a bit here admittedly to show how significant the forces are in even a minor collision and perhaps how we all totally underestimate the potential dangers in even low speed incidents. Even my metal framed glasses which flew-off in the impact were bent in the bridge piece - all of the boxes of product samples in the boot of the car bent forward and unlatched the seat backs in the impact. Go careful out there!

With all the miles most of us have covered over our years in normal and high powered cars we should think ourselves

lucky we've had so few accidents ,whether down to good judgement on ourselves or otherwise.

Probably more near scrapes than most though.yeseek

Only a day to go on this '56 Continental 11 - no reserve - currently up to £5700........rare, unusual and undervalued car (here in UK anyway) - highly unlikely to see one at any show........a few years ago and I'd have gone for it!

One for you rosco, know you like your Camargue's,

Giving a quite in-depth look at one on "Tyrrells Classic Workshop" video channel.

Interesting stuff, don't know how Iain instantly remembers so much detail about any exotic car

you give him and even gets his tongue around the correct Italian pronunciations.

Clever guy. bow

You could probably fit a whole mini in the trunk of that hehe

I like the general look and shape of that, take the badging off and most people would have no idea what it was. In a strange way it actually reminds me of some of the coachbuilt Maserati 5000GTs with it its low roofline and broad, square-ish looks.

Yep a good looking car, almost regal !
Not sure where it fits in the UK ??
Definitely a fan based machine,
Duster has sold thank goodness, another i can forget about,
I reckon I’ll be clean by Christmas biglaugh
I’ve started putting the gas money in a pot to help with my cold turkey,
Nothing like a bit of visual stimulus weeping
