You would have to put a couple of noughts on the end if a Miura and this is rarer

Probably.
They were horrible things to drive by all accounts, with severe stability problems and not great handling characteristics.
I'd still have one though in my lottery win garage biggrin

You must have read my brain, every time i sell one of my cars and have the money to fill the now empty garage i'm

always torn what to get next, do i spend the money on a yank that i unless seriously modified will rattle it's way down the road,

won't stop, go round corners and is impractical just pop into Brighten or London unless there's a show on as just looking at one seems to cost

£100 in petrol before i go anywhere, When i used to pull up at the lights in the Kings Road in my £6K Buick Invictor and new £80K Porsche driver

would pull up along side me and say ,that's nice mate with all the attention focused on the Buick not the seven other Porsches in the queue

but now with the prices at £40K/£60K for a iconic yank i know it will still drive like they did when they cost only £6K/£10K ,

For that money i can have a top European /British sports /coupe car that i can dash up to Brighten ,take it on holiday or weekends away

knowing it will get there and back ,cost quarter the price on fuel ,having modern security it will probably still be
outside the Hotel in the morning

and i won't feel knacked after driving all the way home , £40/£60K will buy you a decent wide bodied latish 911,V8 F Type or V8 AMG Merc that

will only do slightly better than what my £1K Lexus does. That's probably why i will end up buying yet another old rattly yank and totally

ignore what i should be buying, I'm just a sucker for them rolleyes

.

Yep we all are , but we’ve serval 100years experience between us all,
Yes I’d buy another in a heartbeat kid I could afford to
But would I ???
At 15-20K for a nice’ish Mach1, maybe another Challenger?
May 30 at a push for my bucket list car?
Then spend 3 years making it look less like a 50 year old turd, so then would owe me 35k ish.

But 60 grand plus for anything, I’d have to be absolutely minted to consider it!
So in fact no I wouldn’t now because I’ll never be minted so I’ll never have the dosh!

60grand for something that drives like a ruptured duck
That will struggle to keep up with a transit on B roads,
And would be left for dead on most A roads
Nah,
They just ain’t worth that sort of money to me
Never have never will,

But no doubt someone else will consider 60k
to be a bargain, takes all sorts.
It's called passion that drives us to buy these old clunkers or maybe just stupidity ,

I can think of more reasons why i shouldn't buy a classic to a late model sports or prestige car ,

Just makes no sense at all really,

A few years back i was selling my series one 4.2 E Type fhc ,bought it from the son of the original owner

Nice unmessed with car with a few marks here and there on the bright red paintwork, interior was original

with patina as they call it now, asking £12,750 ,a guy came with his reluctent wife who couldn't understand why

i wanted £8,750 and his immaculate V12 XJS HE for my E Type,Looking at her point of view the S was the better car

body and interior wise and drove super smooth like a good one does unlike the clonky E Type,

As much as the guy wanted to do the deal he didn't stand a chance if he didn't want his ears bent all the way home,

probably a good example of what we are talking about only the E TYpe is now worth £65K to £75K even in it's existing

condition and the XJS is worth about the same assuming it's still on the road.
There were a few XJSs at the NEC show which I had a good look at, it struck me that it’s still a fairly large car compared to other cars of the period. A decent rot free one with good history is a relative bargain now too. Mustn’t get distracted though must I...? wink

A good V12 XJS HE is a really good car if you can find one without the oil leaks, they are impossible to get rid off,

you end up chasing them and never get rid of all of them, but they do everything well apart from the fuel consumption ,

The bad ones seem to be worth nothing with the decent ones on the way up.

They are twice the car a Ferrari 400 auto or a Aston V8 auto every could be,

I would buy a one again tomorrow but it would have to have a Lister badge attached to it.

Yep hugely underrated motor car,
Yes they are large ish, but compared to midsize yanks they are small,
A half decent one drives a million times better
than any yank, turbine fast/quiet and handle lovely a genuine GT,
HE should return 18 mpg,
6.0 are pretty rare and really not noticeably quicker,

They had a bad reputation due to BL , dubious build
Quality etc,
But a well sorted car is world class,
And unlike the pony they have class in spades,

Down side there’s no such thing as a rust free XJS!
Monumental rusters !
Floors, inner outer sills, rear radius arm mountings,
Bulkhead, inner wings, and virtually every body panel except the roof!

Ironically cars with oil leak problems will generally have less rust!!

Buy with extreme caution, get a good one ????
And classic GT motoring will be your lobster,

While we are on XJS’s it’s worth noting
that later Pre HE models were fitted GM Turbo 400 Auto transmissions , light years better than the BW
Early ones,
Late HE’s are fitted with ZF’ trans good box but horrendous
To repair!!
HE’s may seem the obvious one but the difference with the box would make me look for a GM car,

An automatic is the only transmission really for a turbine Jagwrrrrr,

I was looking into the 3.6 XJSs for a while, there are a few nice manuals about but the thought of a wafty V12 warms the cockles, even though the sight of all that spaghetti when you open the bonnet is just mind boggling. A mate of mine worked at Browns Lane from '86 to '92 and used to fit the bumpers and dashboards into XJSs, he said they sometimes used to kick them into place when they were bored!

Veering back on topic, some yank nostalgia...

My brother in law had a red/tan interior 3.6 XJS from nearly new. Lovelly car, perhaps a better choice for use within London. I always remember it as being a bit claustrophic inside (with an interior from a far smaller car - oddly much like a C3 Corvette!) One thing the main dealers could never rectify was the stink of petrol inside the car.......seems they had an inherrent issue with the fuel tank vent/overflow pipes continually allowing fumes in the cabin. Brother in law (being a heavy smoker) never noticed it so much as me. It put me off riding in it. Good job perhaps that he never smoked in his cars........

Elvis in the film Clambake, with the famed 1959 Chevy XP-87 racer, which the C2 Corvette took much of its design cues from several years later.
GM restored the car back to its original build state about 10 years ago, and its been seen on display at the Petersen Museum and Peeble Beach and other significant events since.
Gorgeous looking thing.

The Jag V12 was called a double 6 for the simple reason it’s two 6’s !
Once one gets ya head around that they are surprisingly simple,
Ok injected one’s have lots o gubbins but
When compared to modern stuff they are simple

I thought it was something like that but couldn't remember the actual name of the car wink

Been watching some more GT40 vids on youtube whilst waiting for a delivery (domestic stuff, not car books smile), it's getting worse...

Jesus on a pushbike that's mad! Imagine the kind of collection you could build up with that much to spend in one go... yanks, Brits, Italians etc...;)

Great looking Camaro though, definitely.

$530k is nothing though, that's not even that special in terms of what has been paid for a Camaro at auction before.

There was talk if the rain continues this week the showfield will be waterlogged if it's not already and the show could get cancelled

but looking at the forecast apart from Thursday the man on the TV says it's going to be dry all week so i will

be there. yes

The queues are not so bad as they use to be now that you have to prepay and with a bright coloured

entry sticker on your windscreen they just wave you in so there isn't the hold ups of previous years of having to pay at the gate,

I'm not the most patient person but Wheels Day is the one show that's worth the wait.

Many years ago I used to shoot a 1500 comp
In Aldershot back in the 90’s it used to take me about
1-50 mins traffic depending,
Now it would be about 3hrs if I was lucky,
Progress is a fabulous concept!

Wild horses wouldn’t drag me anywhere near the M25 next weekend!

With all the Dover debacle of late it’s been rammed around here for weeks, factoring road closures
We’re virtually under siege hehe
