As my pile of parts has steadily reduced I’ve started to look into the remaining parts to do ,
These are mainly engine associated ,
Specifically the induction side,
After some research it’s very apparent that all my cars original parts are gone,
The inlet is a 77’ the shaker is 74/76,
The air filter housing is probably 75 but this is difficult to pin down etc,
I would seem the previous long term owner has cheery pick my parts ?
This does make sense as he told me he’d sold swapped some parts to raise the cash to buy Ram Air 1V
Stuff,
So it looks like I’ve been slightly had ??
On the bright side all the original stuff is now available as reproductions,
The complete shaker assembly will cost me well over a grand,
But will be worth the extra expense,
and I’ll have some nice garage ornaments with the parts I won’t need!
I’ve worked out every time I need to find another 1500 quid for this car I’ll have to work another month before retirement!!
Bugger the end of 26’ at this rate I’ll be 70 ,

The original right hand door had no reinforcement to support the door mirror,
Which is a bit pants, so I made one and will spot welded it in
Before the epoxy goes on

Would aftermarket perf bits be cheaper than repro OEM bits in that case?

This is as good as it gets as far as I'm concerned.

Picking the brain of the resident experts - I've bought an oil pressure gauge for my 'Turd™ - not sure I want to know what it says though biggrin

Anyhow, the internet says that there are two ports for the sender on a 350 SBC; one on the block under/near the dizzy and another above the oil filter. Mine has an HEI ignition which is sizeable and means unless I remove the dizzy (no desire to do that!), the first one's a pig to get at, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if the port above the oil filter will work as well - assuming it's a bit easier to get at from underneath?

Yeah the filter housing point will work
Capillary type gauges will work almost everywhere!
But you could just pull the dizzy cap off with all the leads and you’ll find a large gap!

Maybe but for a functional Shaker I ve no choice
The internet is littered with failed or bodged
Shaker issues,
One option is buy a butler drop base,
Then graft it into my moody Air Cleaner
This would be a try till it fits type of thing,
But manifold and carb height would not be so critical,
It would allow me to use my ring retainer on the shaker but no flapper ??
Obviously it could be made to work but it s a lot of faffing around,
No of this is really important at this time as I ve plenty to keep me busy!
We ve just been told we can use our 6.5 again,
But only on ranges cleared for HME and we d be required to do the test each time we use them

Wasn't that always the case though, and 6.5 was still OK to use on the MOD range that were already certified for HME for the .338 AI use?

Thought it was only on the field firing ranges that were only certified for 5.56 and 7.62 that the 6.5 had been banned?

Still a paff to have to do the bloody test every time, when the range is certified for .338 ffs.

Have heard whispers that now the booties have the new 6.5 LMT, the Para's and Rangers want it as well (then the Guards will want it etc.etc) and thus they'll have to start certifiing all the field firing ranges for 6.5 anyway.
Might be a few years away yet before any Army units get any 6.5 LMT's though smile

Landmark had a blanket ban on all 6.5/260
Obviously easier to ban everything!
It may inspire me to get another boomer but
It’s so difficult getting reloading stuff and the prices have gone mental

303..... cool, and great for old gits like me who want to shoot old stuff.
I've just managed to pick up 100 rds of Greek HXP Mk.7z to use in my 4T as the commercial stuff with the boat tail heads are a waste of time for anything other than plinking at 100m with battle sights (or steels if you are lucky enough to be able to shoot steels)

The electronic target setup at Bisley now is not very friendly to old eyes and battle sights, or old rifles in general, so that's why I'm going to have to go modern with something like a Tikka for 600-1000m ranges. Will keep the old WW2 stuff for plinking at 100-300 range.

Well I’m glad you’re pleased !
lol
I’ve got so much on the go atm
So I’ll just let it all run for now, but so disappointed, falling plates is ideal for big ol lever guns,
Ces’t la vie!

Think the HME thing will be interesting???
People used to get a bit upperty when we were messing around doing our tests,
So if it’s going to be a regular thing now
And as I’ve got heads cases and powder may cast and eye for a 338 or a Norma Magnum
I just keep hedging my bets until I retire, then maybe I could do Bisley again from time to time

Well, I would be pleased if I was shooting on MOD with 303, but, I'm not and 303 is getting harder to shoot at Bisley because the target zone is now smaller for modern accurate stuff laugh
Would love to shoot falling plates, and NRA have announced they will do limited steel plate setup days on Stickledown but only on week days not weekends.
I was looking forward to retirement and just booking a range for an hour or so and having a mid week blat, but I'm hearing rumours that NRA will be changing the rules for next year onwards, and if you are a NRA member you will have to have a NRA issued SSC to book ranges on your own, and a NRA club issued SSC won't be sufficient as it is now. That means having to spend 7-800 quid to do all the NRA SSC courses, which means if that happens, I won't be renewing my NRA membership next year (and nor will many others!)
So, my retirement shooting plans will be kicked into touch as well, and so I fully expect my next renewal at the end of this year will be my last, and I'll just keep the SGC for clays after that (maybe)

Good grief will they never learn!

Its very sketchy at this time, constant rumblings of scatter guns going to section one?
this is very bad and will have far reaching consequences me thinks,
just have to see how things pan out,

Not asking silly money then. I would have said, £30-35k was about the right going rate currently for a very nice '57 T-Bird in UK.

I still haven't managed to find out what one of my ex's paid for her '56 she imported from USA last summer. I would have thought it would have been around that price range.
