Anyone see the programme earlier this evening about Bond Street - more specifically about Bonhams sale with the Mercury Cougar CJ428 sold last December. Did this actually happen p seem to recall some issue about its 'provinance'. Reading Bonham's speil on https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/26122/lot/104/
and this

it make one wonder when reading the comment that someone bought it as they wanted the engine (well you would wouldn't you?)
Oddly I remember Lou, one of Billericays Mopar Boys from the 70's buying one of these - so a 428 CJ XR7 - same colour body, same colour interior with the leather seats - probably only 10 years old at the time and seemingly quite a nuice car. It wasn't too long after I had sold off my 428 cu in 7 Litre (and it 'passing-over') The Cougar was a bit of an odd ball car really when you consider all of them in the UK were 289's or 302's (although the guy opposite me had a lime green 390GT version). Lou didn't have too much luck with the Cougar, him reasonably expecting great performance things out of it and I seemed to recall he had various engine issues. If my memory serves me correctly further investigation led to him realising that the CJ engine (perhaps block and heads too?) had been previously swapped out for a 'cooking' 390 cu in lump...........which makes the comment by Bonhams "fully restoring the Holley carburettor; fitting the correct Ram Air induction, air filter, snorkel and heat shield" perhaps open to some conjecture............is it the same vehicle?

With the event of the internet if someone was determined enough some relative information would come up about engine
numbers,Liked the way Bonhams say "Believed" if not correct information does that except them from any force statements.
They mentioned that it was bought out of the Exchange & Mart with no mention of the tie to the James Bond film,
Things happened in those days with next to no internet and it was just another old yank in the UK, In those days it was hard to sell
a Mustang let alone a Couger, Also the James Bond films wasn't held in such iconic status, When collecting a Merc 350 SL that
i bought from a lady only a quarter of a mile from my parents house
the son handed over the car and to my surprise he opened another garage containing his Couger convertible ,a think it was a 67 but
had a K plate due to they gave the registration year of importation rather than manufacture, tastefully custom painted
on Centrelines and the rear end jacked up, although just down the road from my mum and dads i'd never seen the car
before, he mentioned he will be putting it up for sale so thought it rude not to buy it for the princely sum of £1250 ,
life was full of surprises like that back then, had a later convertible after that followed by a mint 67 white coupe that somehow
ended up on Charlie March's lawn at the Festival of Speed, didn't win anything but got a whole heap of free tickets for 4 days
and a invite to the ball. Regret not going to that but haven't got a monkey suit and get confused with to many Knife and forks,

Not a bad price for that Valiant - also not a huge car, so a bit easier to drive in the UK than some.
The 65 Barracuda on "The Market" failed to make it's £12K reserve and fell flat on it's face only making £5,300 ,i know there not popular but it's LHD and looks very clean, should have made more than the Valiant ,perhaps
"The Market" the wrong place for little unknown yanks,

I have a lovely vintage one, but if I hadn't got one, I would have just hired one with a free ball ticket on offer...!!and a invite to the ball. Regret not going to that but haven't got a monkey suit
Chances like that don't come around very often, no wonder you regret not going!
I used to marshall at FoS in the early days, and we used to get an invite to the awards and prize giving (which was sometimes in the house) and that was cool brushing shoulders with many a well know motorsport face.....who I must admit with only one or two exceptions over the years were all pretty laid back and friendly at FoS to us scumbag marshalls

Ever seen one of the 5 or so Ferguson 4WD '69/'70 428CJ Mustangs commissioned by Ford UK as pursuit vehicles?

Saw them play at Wembley about 25 years ago.........they were brilliant.
"Using the upcoming London Classic Car Show as a backdrop, The Grand Tour host Richard Hammond will be revealing his new classic car restoration business. That’s right, the man who messed up his classic Jaguar XK150 is now going to help others restore their classic rides. Well, to be fair the man will own the restoration business but likely won’t be managing its day-to-day affairs. And we feel confident he won’t be performing the restoration work himself. In other words, this business has a fighting chance to really make it.
Working with Hammond on the project are Neil and Anthony Greenhouse, whom yu might recognize from Hammond’s video updates"
Sorry to be sceptical fella's - yet another 'celebrity' putting his name to a classic car business - so, presumably inflated prices to cover for the 'connection' that has a CEO that'll be doing nothing other than adding a name. Please tell me I'm wrong........

My mate has just bought a F Type Jag blind on the internet,
Asked him today when is coming,he said will be next week now they are delivering it from Liverpool,
No excitement or emotion at all, when it's here it's here he says, like ordering a pair of shoe's from Amazon .
I suppose we are all different ,then he bought the wrong one, a V6 not the V8
Always liked the look of the F-Type coupe, there's an old boy round the corner who has a V8 in dark blue which hits the right spot.

This mustang popped up on ebay today. Not that anyone here might be tempted by it, but just in case anyone is, I would say don't. This is the guy I bought my Firebird from, and I remember looking at it at the time and thinking it was rough. Wavy as hell down the sides, clearly full of filler. It was a solid grey colour then, as can be seen in this picture from just over a month ago:
Now it's a darker metallic grey, but there's no mention of a brand new respray in the advert, despite him listing parts/work done to it... Funny that...

My nipper drives the cars, van's on and off the boats, he's what's known as a prestige driver and drives Aston's,
McLaren's, Rollers but one of his favourite cars is the V8 F type, first things first press the sport switch/button ,when they are in convoy
all you can hear is the popping and banging of the exhausts echoing around the dock buildings,

what it might be covering up being so fresh, At least with a older repaint you can see if it's lasted well and
if any reaction has come though ,

(not restorer), As long as it's shinny most wouldn't know the difference between a in-depth restoration and a lick of paint.
