To run a car like this you would have to win the euro millions (twice)...

Very cool stuff.^^ I always liked that Mopar built really solid drivetrains in their cars.
Some of the styling is...interesting. I am reading Virgil Exner's biography at the moment, they had some wild styling back then.

413 Max was almost undriveable on the street with the optional 13.5:1 comp ration, even back then.
The US oil companies octane race through the late 1950's had already ended before the Max came out, and only Sunoco was still in the game with its famous Sunoco 260 Premium blend which was top of the tree, 104 octane leaded premium go-juice biggrin

After 5 Star leaded was withdrawn and when the real (and highly dangerous/toxic) cans of Tetra ethyl lead additive were banned I clearly remember the last time I added a can of it to the 4 Star unleaded fuel tank of my '71 Mustang 429 SCJ. This, other than Hooker headers was a 100% stock factory Saturday Night Special with solids, 4.11 locker, C6 and that 11.2 compression ratio. On 4 Star unleaded it would never idle for more than about 10/15 seconds in drive before loading up and cutting. It would idle ok'ish in park - just listening to that engine idling on untreated gas......then tipping the can.....waiting a few minutes for it to draw through.......and how the engine seemingly miraculously smoothed right out like it had the cam changed to a really mild grind.....

Seems we’re much like the cars we love ,
Over the hill, worn out, and completely Ignored by almost everyone!

hehe

Personally I really know nothing about the 50’- 60’ s
As I was too young, but I dooooo miss the 70’s and 80’s
Not because of some rubbish motors but because I had an absolute blast, power boats and chasing skirt !

Seems we’re much like the cars we love - loud, overweight and always leaving impressive skidmarks
I fixed that for you.

I have so many stories driving old crappers. Here'ssomething to ponder - ever had a wheel come-off your car whilst driving?......a bit of a problem (unless you had an older Citroen) - what about loosing a wheel on a three wheeler? - a major event. This happened to one of the front two wheels of the Berkeley T60, my very first 'car' (?) - 'fun' moment that was!

Only ever lost a wheel on a trailer!
Salt water and wheel bearings are not overly compatible,

Did have a scary incident years ago coming back for Austria, we had been Ski racing out there
Coming back on some Autoroute when it was just pi—ing down, I remember looking out the side window of the Landy and saw out 21 foot boat happily aquaplaning along the side of the tow vehicle! FFS ,

yikes

It all went very quiet for a minute or two !

Like the late 80s to early 90s for me. Minus the powerboats. If you had a speedboat around here in the midlands, you'd won it on Bullseye. laugh

''Look what you could have won.... why's it always a speedboat...?'' wink

There's a large and very shabby looking speedboat in the back garden of a terraced house next to the railway between Perry Barr and Soho (Brum), talk about land locked hehe

Lost a rear wheel on my 65 Le Camino on the way to Wheels Day when they changed the venue to Dunsfold .

Just overtook a 60's Holden ,gave the driver a wave as i went by with my nipper following me in a Shelby Mustang clone

and suddenly the whole car shook violently then seconds later the rear seemed to collapse on the left side doing around

60/70 mph ,with that momentum managed to fight it into a drive way of a posh Hotel ,yikes

Little did i know the last remaining bolt holding the wheel on had sheared luckily leaving the wheel hanging off the hub

trapped between that and wheel arch and was being dragged alone the last few yards,

Ended up on the back of a RAC truck with nipper following us home.

Someone don't know who did not torque the wheel nuts up and one by one they must have got loose

and had fallen out until the last 2 sheared, apparently we missed the biggest American car ,truck and hot rod

traffic jam ever trying to get into Dunsfold so not all bad .rolleyes

Yes, you were lucky, that was an utter mess that show. I was only a passenger, but was bored stless after the 2nd hour of queuing having gone all of about 400 yards in that time.
We saw another mate going the other way in his '55 Chevy having got fed up and turned around and headed home.

Next time I'm passing, I'll write a little note, wrap it round a piece of coal and chuck into his back yard!

O/T waffle alert : Ferruccio Lamborghini had a very swish Riva Aquarama speedboat powered by a pair if Miura V12s...

Back on topic - saw another local yank in town today, I think it was an early '60s Chrysler 300, a bit tatty looking but it oozed road presence. It seems they're starting to come out of the woodwork now Summer's on the way.

Cool, you can never have too much horsepower lol...

My good friend in the USofA just sold his Daytona.

It was the first 200mph 'closed course car in 1970!

He spent twenty years restoring the car after spending twenty years looking for it!

Valued at $750,000, went for $550,000, prices are dropping...
