For 6 months following retirement last December I didn't bother to get a daily driver. Just used the Vette if in real need to go somewhere. One of my buddies (a London black cab driver who gave it up also last year) said to buy a Fiesta, parts are cheap and easy to source. Thing is everyone wants a Fiesta so they ain't cheap. So I didn't buy one (but really I did) - got a 2003 ULEZ compliant 1.4 Mazda 2 which is actually a Ford Fusion/Fiesta in drag (even though it assimulates something that Noddy and Big Ears might drive). The point I'm gonna get to is that it surprised me after spending 40 years driving around in late model cars with auto box's, a/c, bluetooth all the gizmo's etc etc how easy and how relaxing it is to 'come-down' and drive around at speeds well below legal maximums in a £600 no frills car and not caring or giving flying F anymore.........Edited by roscobbc on Saturday 24th July 23:50

Spent most of my younger and middle age in BM's,Merc' s and the like, being in business had to turn up in something
with the right badge and all that, later on in life had a trio of Saab's ,mainly Areo's ,right badge for those who know but not so flash.
Think they called them the thinking mans prestiege car , for Doctors and Accountents to drive, but with them going out of
production certain spares were getting scarce ,now i don't need to impress anyone just myself i found the new world
of disposable cars , mostly not out of choice more word and mouth situations of knowing someone who was retirring from
driving and wanting to sell ,My £400 Citreon Xantia diesel, thought that will do for a couple of months till the end of winter,
4 years later i was still driving the wheels off it,tried to kill it but it wouldn't die, every mot i'd hope they would fail it but passed
with no adviseries even kept it taxed when i tried and failed to use my Alfa GTA as a daily ,it being unable to cope with my hard style
driving and was in the Alfa specialist more than in my driveway then back in the Xantia, which brings me to my lovely £1K Lexus, my son said
i look like a geography teacher in it but i don't give a fk, last week on holiday with my daughter and the boys aboard in all the hot weather
with my ice cold air conditioning turned on a £20K car wouldn't have been any better and i can park it where ever and not worry about it and
if it runs into uneconomical repair i'll just through it away and get another but so far a hard 40,000 miles in 2 years and i've never
had to even top the oil up, they tell me that they make a 3.2 220 bhp version so i'll go out shopping when needed, Think i might have to
forke out a bit more than a grand though, Didn't Alan Partridge drive an Lexus ,
Your Mazda is the perfect choice ,so much better than an English,French Italian equivalent.
When I first started driving and only paying a few pounds for cars I would alway aim to buy an 'old mans' car. The Hillman Minx was a good choice then. No 'young' person would be seen dead in one, they were often relatively low miles and perhaps one or two owners. OK, so they were 8, 10, 12 years old and seriously rusty but good mechanically. Today's most 'usable' and 'user friendly' vehicle must be a Toyota Prius I'd guess. Not that I's ever consider having one. My laddo had a Xantia diesel. He paid next to nothing for it - he had to leave it out in the street as it leaked so much fuel and stank. The suspension would always sink and take several minutes to pump-up on starting. Being non-turbo it was really economical - he had the thing for 4 or 5 years and it neaver missed a beat.

Love it , i would but not sure what the local Hot Rod boys would think,My 59 Caddy was this colour but think you would get away with anything on a 59 there so cartoon like,
There's a guy local to Reading ,posted a lot on R&S who either had or still has a 32 5 window in satin pink,
on steels on w/whites with a 351 ,he use to take it to Wheels Day and Hayling Island shows, you may have seen him around
if local to you, Think his name is Steve but not sure ,seen the car at Billy's as well.

A thoughtful flame job could make that bareable
Ghost flames would be the perfect match ,Reminds me when i took a layer of paint off one of the rear arches on my 59 El Camino,no damage but the colour was a very similar to Cadillac's Persian Sand maybe a little more pink in it,
Tried at the usual places for a touch up as near as i could get but with no success so took the fuel cap off and went into
my local Boots to see if i could get close to matching it with nail varnish, not easy when there's hundreds to choose from
and your fumbling away inbetween woman looking for their right shade of varnish, Did get some funny looks ,with 5 bottles in
my hand one of the assistances came over to me, really embarrassing when trying to explain to her about the colour of my car ,
of course she never heard of a Chevolet let alone a El Camino, Just as she was getting worried and had some loony in the
shop i pulled out my fuel cap and showed her the colour, after that she was very helpful and gave me a hand to find almost the
exact match .God that stuff is thin ,i had to put twenty or more coats on to cover it.

The term 'Coals to Newcastle' come to mind with this '72 LT1 on Bring a Trailor (at one time a UK vehicle)

First time i've heard of that one, although they will appreciate this model and pay more than we will here.https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-chevrolet-c...
Love the colour and spec ,for me that's the perfect C3.
Heard of Hemi Mopar's and the like going back but never a Corvette, someone i know did re-import
a 58 nut and bolt restored Impala coupe and a high end built 32 Roadster,
The Impala made almost double what his highest UK offer was which even after expences made him a profit
and think he got his money back on the Rod. Just as well as it's a long way to bring them home.

That's an awful thought......And would ruin the whole ethos of the build of that car.
My mate gave me his factory original cerise painted Corniche convertible with magnolia leather piped in cerise with cerise carpets to
look after and sell for him when he went back to Spain and everywhere we went it got very mixed opinions, love or hate it you couldn't
ignore it, Seem to remember the Reg was 2 FU but he turned it around to FU 2 ,

I reckon that lovely tri-power 58 Impala that was for sale at the NATS back in 2019 (or was it 2018?) would have been a good candidate for sending back to USA, as the money the owner wanted for it in UK was way below what a 58 would go for in USA.a 58 nut and bolt restored Impala coupe and a high end built 32 Roadster,
There was a well known '32 that was built here in the UK, which later got exported to the USA, spent well over a decade there, changing hands several times in the USA, and ended up coming back to the UK again in 2019...!!

At the time of taking the Rod back high end ones were not selling for the money they are today in the UK,the average price being around
£10/£18K and before our best kept secret was even out and the money people had zero interest in yanks or rods.
I would have thought that a squeaky clean, super original high-end Mopar Hemi powered vehicle would be a potential candidate for shipping back to the UK - guessing that whilst there are no doubt 'experts' and enthusiasts here in the UK who could go through every detail of the car a really outstanding car would be more likely to make bigger money over the pond with so much of a bigger market than the UK and Europe.
Green Charger made just under 65K, so not to shabby, makes the few for sale around 80 look very very over priced,
Still a good result for what is a composed 440-6, id love to see what a puka TA would make on one of theses type of auctions, not that i could bid now,
that ship has well and truly sailed! in all honesty its a relief, ive stopped trolling through the internet every day looking, looking back its just been a huge pain in the ar--,

They just love their home grown classics, apart from rock & roll that's all they got , unless you include the real Americans, the Red Indians but they don't seem to want to talk about them.

As you say a good price ,aproaching £70K with commission ,doesn't get much better than that unless your a Still a good result for what is a composed 440-6, id love to see what a puka TA would make on one of theses type of auctions, not that i could bid now,

matching numbers sort of buyer.Crazy really one of the Aston's i share the my storage with was sold last week on "Collecting Cars"
for £58K + commission, hand built proper British prestige classic that cost around £160K in 1996 with only 101 built, only 40,000 miles
with full Aston service history , wonder what that would cost in todays money for Aston to reproduce.
Puts it in prospective i suppose ,must be what's in fashion at the time.
