I've always thought the 65 Riviera is a handsome thing, especially in black. It's those hideaway headlights that makes me like the 65 in particular.

And growing up in the late 70s into the 80s, watching American TV shows and movies made me want, amongst others, a 68 or 69 Charger, a 78 Trans Am, and a 49 Mercury. I'd also still like a boat of a car like Burt Reynolds drove in White Lightning, complete with brown paint and black steelies. Was it a Ltd or a Galaxie?

Even with the war wounds, what a fabulous looking car, When i had my 70' Road Runner i was offered a Full Superbird body kit, i was tempted, but it was about 3 grand, and still had a few small bits missing, and the though of trying to fabricate the rear glass bezel, then getting the rear screen cut to fit would have been a nightmare, so i passed, but good grief they do look good in Petty Blue.........................................................

Very much an 'upmarket' Galaxie - a 'sister' car to the '66 428 powered Galaxie 7 Litre I owned all those years ago. As nice as the Mercury interior my 7 Litre had an Emberglow interior (burnt metallic orange/red colour) - unbelieveable appearance..........

White interior - but with desirable 4 speed
love the interior especially the leather bucket seats, i had a couple stacked headilght Galaxie's

can't remember if 65 or 66 , one convertible and one 4 dr pillarless but not like yours having the front bench seat

Is there any difference between 65 and 66 .
Yes - I had both - '65 had a 'squarer' shape and 'square' rear lights - '66 had more rectangular shape rear lights and a 'coke' bottle kick to the rear end.
65

66
Aah....... an ex-owner of a '66 Galaxie.

Well, one of those left a lasting impression on me back in 1991...when I saw this nice '66 parked next to this MkII.....

The bonnet being up, I had a look, expecting to see a clean 428......however, the sight that greated my eyes was a bit different, as this is what was just about fitted between the fenders biggrincloud9

The thing with buying a 'vette though, is the Corvette Clubs will have car inspectors all over the USA and for a few hundred bucks you'd get a pretty good report back which would be as good as you'd and likely pick up more than if you got on a plane and looked at it yourself.
My mate did this with the '64 C2 that he and his wife bought....it was somewhat a project car, but the report picked up all the issues that he suspected, and confirmed what he was hoping, that the all important birdcage was sound, as the cosmetics and mechanicals he could all do himself.

Thanks aero I’ll bear that in mind wink

Another bit of good news, I might have a buyer for some of the (rare) Mini alloys I no longer need, that’ll top the pot up a bit more.

The GT40 wasn’t an original real one, but it was a real toolroom copy continuation car. It was one of a small handful of Mk2’s built around that time by legendary race shop Holman&Moody, as H&M had been one of the 3 race teams contracted by Ford in ’66 to build, prep and run the 9 x Mk.2’s at Le Mans that year (Shelby and Alan Mann being the other two) As a result Ford passed a complete set of engineering drawings for the Mk.2 to H&M so they could build and prep the cars. H&M being a family firm, had retained that set of factory drawings for the Mk.2 and thus were able to build a brand new Mk.2 in complete minute detail.

Which leads onto the Galaxie with the ‘cammer’. It was the first ‘cammer’ I’d ever seen in the flesh, and even as someone in their late 20’s at the time, I got a bit vocally animated at the sight of it (thinking there was no one around) but a head popped out from behind the RV you can see on the right. The sound of my English accent apology, and the man came over (wearing a H&M tee-shirt) and was amazed a guy from the UK was looking and drooling over the cammer in his Galaxie, and he got chatting.
It turned out I was talking to non other than Lee Holman, son of the founder of H&M and the cammer in the Galaxie was an original left over from the stock of brand new one they had had in the 60’s, and the Galaxie seemed a logical place to put one! After a lovely chat about the Galaxie and the Mk.2 continuation cars he walked back to the RV and came back with a H&M Competition Proved T-shirt which he gave to me, and I still have but can no longer fit into, but I must get around to putting into a glass frame to put up on the garage wall, along with the NASCAR legends T-shirt I bought at the same event, and which 10 years later I got personally signed by NASCAR legend Junior Johnson.

There was a two part article in Classic American which was very interesting as although Holman & Moody were know to me

i realized i didn't really know much about them at all. The part i remember the most was when Ford gave up racing they did it

very suddenly after promising the year before that they were continuing to race left H&M in serious trouble ,

Lee said that Ford just wanted to get rid of the GT40's ,i think from memory around 12 of them at a really silly low price

even for those days, after all they were just old racing cars that nobody wanted in those days, Lee tried to convince his dad

that they should take out a loan and buy them as they were in their workshops already.

With Ford letting them down his dad didn't won't to stretch the company any more than it was so missed a chance of a life time

especially if they could have hanged on to them when they went from old racing cars to collector cars.

but i suspect i'm telling you something you already know.
