I really like that, it looks beautifully done, I've googled the dimensions and it should fit but in the side profile shots it looks bigger than it (probably) actually is. In fact I've spent the morning clearing out the garage and checked the internal length again just to be sure, it's 203'' so an inch under 17ft. Much discussion ensued with her indoors whilst all this was going on, she asked me ''will you get a Corvette Stingray in there I like those...?''. We are definitely making progress, but she also asked ''you're not thinking of buying one of those big horrible square things though are you...?'' wink

Did anyone see the white '77 'Vette on 'Bangers & Cash' last night? It sounded fantastic when the potential buyer started it up in the showroom.

Still trying to work out whether she was asking or telling you confused
She meant something like this....

Not my thing either really, but I like to wind her up occasionally!

There's an interesting story about that Vette in Saudia livery and how dangerous a little (or zero) knowledge can be.
First read this - https://mathewsons.co.uk/auctions/auction-dates/ve...

and remember the car got close to the lower figure the auctioneers mentioned. So 7 unsold '77 Corvettes (and '77 wasn't exactly a high point in Corvette horsepower or history) - perhaps reading 'in between the lines' this was an attempt to move the vehicles that had been sitting around in extreme heat - unlikely to have rust issues - paint, trim and rubber seals etc would possibly be comprimised. OK so they paint some Saudia stripes on the cars and generate some publicity. Roll on a year or two and perhaps this publicity helps some potential buyers in to thinking the cars are perhaps a little special and that they are buying a potenial future 'collectible'? with me so far? - seems that after the auction the new buyer (remember the price he paid!) had some mechanical issues with car and it seemingly also had other far more serious problems (corrosion). The 'word' from someone who saw the car was that it had possibly the worst chassis corrosion seen on a mid/late 70's Vette (and they are susceptible) and that the owner spent a similar figure again on repairs, welding etc etc. So perhaps in total £40K+ for a car that really is only worth perhaps £15K if it's got a few miles on it. I'll end this by saying apologising if the owner of the car should read this and the story differs - I'm simply repeating what I was told by someone 'in the know'. The moral of the story is - all that 'glistens' is not gold - and you MUST do your homework before buying. I've lost count of the people who bought Corvette 'first' and joined the club 'after purchase' and the unfortunate stories of mis-described vehicles - more of these in fact than stories of people getting a bargain.

Wrong thread really but there are some period photos floating about of Porsche 917s driving through the streets of Le Mans driving

Back to the yanks.... A C3 'vette is pretty much top of my shopping list right now but I've just been looking through the Mercury Cougar pics I've got stashed in the dark dingy depths of my poor hard drive. I had the Matchbox and Dinky toy Cougars as a nipper and have always loved the look of them, the 'posh' Mustang as some like to refer to them, but they rarely seem to come up for sale in the UK and when they do they're often at Mustang money anyway, still any excuse for a photo or two.... whistle

Have a scratch around down the back of the sofa, as Mecum auction next month in Indianapolis has this gem of a rare 428CJ Cougar Eliminator going across the blocks.

Main problem with 'vette's (like any car of that era) is rust, and especially the birdcage on a 'vette.

Difficult to check on the birdcage though isn't it...?

Told her indoors today I won't be buying another Mini, she laughed and gave me 'the look'! Found some more surplus Mini bits to sell off during the garage clear out, onwards and onwards we go.

Back in 2009 brother in law had a superbird and a dodge charger daytona.
Shipped the daytona to California and we drove it to the welbourne museum for the opening and then drove it round Talladega before the 500 with another 50 or so daytonas and superbird..
Then on to don garlits car show then back to California to ship it home.
6500 miles and a lot of filling up of gas .
Five times a day in a twenty gallon tank
