Thought I'd say hello and add a post to the new forum. Here's a pic of my daily run-about '53 Chevy truck and my '73 Australian Ford Fairlane that I've just sold today.
Hi, cool truck - been thinking about buying a 50's Chevy pickup for a while now. Any advice/things to look out for? The one on ebay at the moment looks lovely but I don't want a big block. (Sorry for the thread hijack)
It's better to avoid one with the original 216 s/six engine. They are an old design and have a splash-fed oil system and are not up to being used daily or running at motorway speeds. My 216 blew-up after running on the motorway for 2 hours. I changed the gearbox bellhousing and fitted a later 250 s/six engine and kept the rest of the running gear standard. The vacuum wipers can be replaced by electric ones & the 6 volt system can be easily changed to 12 volt too. Parts are easy to get through any American car spares shop. Some trucks have Camaro front clips fitted - the whole front suspension and part of the chassis rails from a Camaro is grafted onto the truck chassis which gives you independant front suspension for better ride quality. The original chassis is an open 'C' section from front to back so there's no water traps to cause rust problems. The floor and cab corners are the usual rust spots but replacement sections are easy to get hold of. One advantage with buying a rat-look one is that you can see there are no horrors hiding under the paintwork !.
Oooh just noticed this section. '67 Charger, details over here...

Is it your Caddy in the next Classic American (June) ?
Yeah, it is. Pics taken at a local pub on a crisp morning last November. Car was as purchased then, have done quite a few bits to it since.

Here's my Chevelle 454 SS
Well, mine only for a few more weeks as I'm coming back to Britain and have decided against bringing it with me, so it's going to it's new owner in three weeks.
At least the weather has cheered up sufficiently that I can dust it off and give it plenty of action whilst I still can It is without doubt the best car I have ever owned and I'll never forget the experience of rumbling around in

Why don't you bring it back
Just $900 puts it in a container,
