Has anyone intentionally purchased a fake watch?

Firstly I'm not promoting fake watches at all..there seems to be a lot of websites offering apparently excellent quality top brand replicas.
Namely Breitlings,Tag and omegas etc for £90 etc
Has anyone ever been bold enough to check what the quality of these fakes are like..Doubt I would enter my credit card details on such a dodgy site anyway.but would be interested to know how good the fakes actually are and what reasons anybody would go down this route?

I have.
I have some very nice real ones, (Breguet, Jaeger etc), but fancied a rubbish one from Thailand. I binned it when the battery ran out.
It was more of a joke than trying to pretend I had the real thing.
I wouldn't fancy entering my card details though - I bought mine face to face when on hols.
yes. for working in, so if i scratch/crack it then it can go in the bin. i have a panerai luminor and an omega planet ocean, both of which work perfectly and look pretty damn good tbh. both were about 80 quid each from china, direct from a website. prob wont buy another, but purely for fact it does damage the real companies, but i wanted to see how good they were and what they looked like on the wrist.
the panerai is as close as dammit from the face view, altho an expert will spot the movement for what it is when you see the glass back, it does look a decent mechanical movement.
the planet ocean looks very close, and the strap is very good tbh. both are purely mechanical, the po is kinetic but the panerai needs winding .
i also have originals, this was purely a risky try to see what they looked like in the flesh and if they work, i could quite easily have been ripped off and got nothing back or something that lasted 2 minutes.

In Thailand earlier this year and my brother wanted a Nolex so I went to a shop with apparently a good reputation.
The standards were surprisingly high. They were proudly taking the backs off and showing me the movements.
The "better" ones weren't that cheap either. Asking £200 for 2011 model DSSD.
I got him a SS white faced Daytona and knocked them down to £20. The chrono stopped working after 2wks, the rest of the watch after 6.

I am afraid I have, about 2 years ago. I was just curious really to see how well made they were. It was just as a beater though, so I didn't care if it was no good.
As it happens, I am not saying it would fool anyone, but its not bad, keeps reasonable time, is auto, has a bit of weight to it, & for what it is its ok. Even the sub dials work properly.
I usually keep it in the car, just in case I am out & forget to put one on.

I purchased a Tag Fleur (note incorrect spelling)in kowloon about 8 years ago haggled down to £15
in hindsight not the cleverest of moves as we had to follow thsi very dodgy guy down some very dodgy back streets to an even dodgier looking apartment

There was an identical watch for sale at the Goodwood FOS. One of the market traders was selling it for £180. He claimed it was a genuine Tag case and strap that had 'not quite passed quality control' at TAG. TAG then sell the cases to someone in China, who put different movements in them. After I stopped laughing, I politely declined. I "built" one. Bought a cheap sterile B&R BR01-92-type case and movement, then bought some watch tools and took it apart. Got hold of a BR dial and slotted that in, and some new hands. Can't remember where I got them from, some far-east website. No issues with payment, security or delivery. Since it was a bit of an experiment in taking watches apart, I wasn't careful enough and marked the dial when I put it in, and the hands could do with a little adjustment too. It just lives in a drawer somewhere now in case I fancy tacking the next stage of dismantlement! However, having tried on a genuine BR01-92 in a high street jeweller's, I have to say that at a casual glance it would be hard (to me as a on-expert) to tell the difference - apart from the marked dial!
the fakes i got have been working perfectly tbh for at least a year, and would pass a close inspection, the company that sells them do copies of every major brand and style and unfortunately also sell boxes papers and serial nos for those who wish to take it to the next level, although why you would do so is beyond me with a 50-80quid fake. the website didnt look 100% secure, so we used a one off credit card, it wasnt ripped afterward suprisingly, but a work colleague who bought a similar replica from a different chinese company website had his card scammed within 3 days which tells you something.
they came thro customs marked as 2nd hand mechanical timepieces, which was funny. overall it was just a test to see how good the panerai copy looked in the flesh, as the website pics looked excellent, and to all intents the watch is an almost perfect luminor apart from the movement obviously. it would spur me on to purchase an original now having seen how it looks on the wrist, so at least in my case did a job.

yep- fake breitling from Malaysia- it was as close o my real breatiling as i could get.
like wearing a nice wathch, but don't like having that amount of cash hanging off my wrist all the time- some of the places i seem to end up are ccasionaly les than salubrious, so having something you can just lose without any qualms was really nice.
of course it was nowhere near as nice as the real thing, but it was just nice enough!
