Looks like TC Submariner is a "proper" fake! Ie not a Steinhart look-very-much-a-likey but it has Rolex on the dial.

Ah yes.

A proper fake.

Much better than those awful imitation fakes that you see everywhere. smile

Hence the quotes. You know what I mean though. You can get fakes with "Rolex" that look nothing like any Rolex models and fakes that look very much like the proper item.

In uni I was given a really stty Rolex 'replica' by a mate as he was trying to impress a girl and desperately needed a joint rolling. I had the skills, being a cheap student. It was hilariously poor. It weighed the same as a cornflake, the rolex logo fell off, followed by the crown and then the dial/bezel. The latter was handy as it became the only way to set the time once I had glued the crown on.

Then when I didn't earn much money and could frankly never imagine a day would ever arrive when I did, I bought an £80 Tag Heuer Monaco replica because I liked the shape. If Casio or Swatch had made something that shape I'd have bought one of those instead. That stopped working really quickly. The crown fell off and so did the hands on the subdials. It seemed convicing at the time, but when years later I bought a real one I dragged it out of a draw and compared the two, and there was nothing right about it. Funnily enough even though I really like them I delayed buying the real one for years because I consider that to be a bit of a replica anyway - boggo ETA movement in a case that's not quite like the original.

More recently a friend brought me back a Hong Kong Omega Seamaster James Bond. It was the right size, good weight, even had the diving suit bracelet extension. However the case finish was really poor, with lots of sharp edges, and the face was wrong due to the use of a too-small movement, meaning a date wheel in the wrong place (and with the wrong numbers). The crown fell off that too, so I binned it.

These days I wouldn't wear any replica. I never really got any pleasure out of them, whereas the pleasure I get out of my Omegas is huge.

I think that sums it up for me.

I've never had a fake anything (as far as I know). I can't see the point. I'd know it was a fake.

I'd rather wear an honest Sekonda/Accurist/Lorus/Timex/G-Shock than a fake Rolex/Breitling/Omega, because I'd feel the fake was trying to be something it wasn't (and was quite possibly a lesser watch than the other makes).

No matter what people say about it being a bit of amusement, I think it would say something about me too. Personal view and I guess wearing an expensive watch on a night out isn't the best idea, but I'd just wear a cheaper watch instead, rather than get a fake. Why do that? Are you worried people will think you can't afford an expensive watch?

I considered getting a fake Breitling at one point, because I really liked the look and concept of the Cosmonaute, but in the end waited and bought a real one instead. I love it and I know if I'd bought a fake, it wouldn't give me any pleasure.

I'm only talking about what they look like. Actually, if the fake has an ETA movement, it's probably as good as a real one. hehe

Same here Don a homage Pam with same manual movement, same case and same dial etc.
One big difference is that no-where on the watch does it say Panerai.
Bought it in California a few yrs back for $150 keeps great time and if I lose it or have it stolen then it's only £100 missing and not thousands.

To say that anyone with a fake or homage is trying to pass themselves off a something they're not is an arrogrant load of high horsed bks.

I've got a Rotary because I liked the look of. Didn't know it was 'inspired' by a Breitling at the time, and frankly even if I did for £90 it wouldn't have mattered to me.

I've also got a Parnis because....well st, I liked the look of it too.

Both work just fine, since there isn't £10,000 tied up in the pair of them neither will cause a coronary in the event of being damaged or stolen, and as far as I'm aware buying them didn't finance the murder of puppies by Al or any of the other members of the Kyeeda family.

Re: the pleasure factor, I couldn't give a rats ass whether anyone else likes them or even sees them.

ButI really enjoy them. I enjoy having the choice of half a dozen watches in the morning, I like the way they look when I roll back my sleeve to see the time and I like the way they feel...and surely just like my choices of cars that's the whole point?

Yep, I got this in Vietnam, its not perfect, but its an auto and keeps fair time, if it ever breaks, it'll go in the bin as it only cost 25 bucks in the first place.

Or fit a new battery and hang it on the wall hehe

I own a gen Breitling Aero and a Omega smp , however i never wear my watches too much as i am worried about clanging them off a hard object.
