Thanks chaps.
For anybody interested, it’s a solar quartz. Most of us enjoy a good mechanical but I love a good quartz if for no other reason than, when in a large rotation, it’s nice to have some watches that don’t have to be wound and set after a few weeks out of service. The solar cells are integrated into the subdials, which gives them a very subtle purplish hue when the light catches them. Another little complication I like is the power reserve indicator, which is integrated into the bottom subdial when the chrono is not in use. You can see the “F” and “E” indicators in the pic.

Really like that & now you’ve pointed out the power reserve, I have an itchy trigger finger……For anybody interested, it’s a solar quartz. Hmmm...
Is this another cunning plan by Seiko to "add value" to their bargain basement 5 range?
I'm not sure that I like any of them, and this: "*In actual product, the case back direction might be different from the photograph." made me chuckle. They've also omitted to mention that the chapter ring probably won't line up properly, either.
I don't think that Seiko have done themselves any favours by dressing up the 5 series, but I suppose they know best. Or at least they think that they know best.
Don't misunderstand - I love Seikos, and have several, ranging from a Monster to a Grand Seiko. I currently have the "wants" for a green dialled Prospex diver, but that will have to wait for now. I just think that the latest 5s are rather "style over substance"

Superb! I've never seen one of these before.Pretty much worn it all week; I’d quite forgotten about the really distinctive ‘wzzzzzz..’ noise the rotors make in this movement. Quite unlike anything else I’ve got
