Tried on a couple of Perpetual Calendars.
Liked the JLC but may pick up a lightly used one.
Those are two beautiful watches - and incredible watchmaking too. I have never owned a perpetual, but they're of great interest.Liked the JLC but may pick up a lightly used one.
Lightly used is probably the way to go.
Incoming, paid Dominic a deposit today.

I already have the same watch but the ceramic bezel model (for which, ironically, I paid less brand new than the cost of this one!), but I’ve always liked the orange version, and the lovely MrsC said “if you like it just buy it, what’s the point of leaving the cash in the bank?” She’ll do.
If I had to rationalise it, (I don’t!), it means that when the time comes there will be a pair of POs so that my sons can have one each.
Now, about that Breitling…..

Dom has got a very rare, yellow faced Breitling for sale.
Thankfully I m not in the market, otherwise . If you work in UK Gov security, then IYKYK.
The "5" Breitling on his website doesn't look yellow, and isn't a Emergency. Does he have something else tucked away?Thankfully I m not in the market, otherwise . If you work in UK Gov security, then IYKYK.
We're due to speak soon so I shall enquire about this as well!
IMO.
DH sold this one:

They are a semi-interesting piece of memorabilia, but I certainly wouldn't pay the asking price for one, which from memory is usually about £6000-7000. As noted above, they would almost never have been worn in public by actual MI5 officers, and proudly sporting one as a civilian is a bit Walty.

I was only looking at that very watch earlier on Dom’s site and thinking I’d always loved the orange POs…. lad i used to work with had an orange PO on the orange sort of leather strap. The strap fell to pieces in a way you would not expect from a watch costing that much. Metal bracelet a far better bet!
I have a PO - did they come on an orange strap? Mine is on the Omega rubber (blue) and I have the bracelet too - which I don't like.ETA - I can see that Omega do have an orange strap, I stand corrected. My Omega blue rubber is well made, I doubt an original would fall to pieces easily.

Funnily enough, my Bell & Ross came on a leather strap, and I purchased a genuine rubber strap from B&R direct, for about £100. It lasted a year or two before disintegrating. I bought a knock-off copy rubber strap for peanuts which has been on there without issue ever since. It’s indistinguishable from the original - I showed it to Dominic and he couldn’t see any difference either. NDA said:

I bought mine from a closing down AD in Boston MA called alpha omega about 20 years ago,I made them an offer under rrp which they accepted, was a bargain, years later i popped it in to beards in cheltenham for a full service and I was informed according to the ref number it should have been supplied on the steel bracelet! Sold it to fund my first rolex purchase, even with the cost of an omega service I broke even.
