Gentlemen, I bought two watches today. The first was planned, the second I couldn't resist.

The planned one is a Grand Seiko Snowflake. I've always wanted one of these and it really doesn't disappoint. This isn't a great photograph, it needs a much colder light or sunlight to really make the most of the dial.

The second was very unexpected. They had told me that one of these was in stock when they emailed me about the Snowflake, but I didn't think I'd be that impressed. It's limited to 1,500 pieces worldwide (I think), and they seemed reasonably genuine when they said that they hadn't expected to get any more in, ever. A lovely gentleman (with a very impressive collection of cars back in Dubai) appeared to buy the other one as I was there.

Again, the lighting in the photo is poor, but it's beautiful. The movement is incredible too, almost as lovely to watch the second hand as the Spring Drive.

Well done!

Looking forward to seeing some more photos smile

Well after a long wait I picked this up yesterday. A wedding present from my wife.

Datejust 41 with a dark rhodium dial. I love its understated style.

I have been following both Marloe and Farer watches from afar for a while.

Have decided to dip my wrist with one of these, should be here in a few weeks.

Very nice. One of the many watches that I really fancy so therefore don’t take the plunge!

Don't know anything about Marloe, so will have to look them up.

I keep going back to the Farer Hudson, but it's well behind in the 'must have' stakes behind the Seiko Presage and Stowa Flieger.

They are one of these new British micro brands, all featuring hand wound movements. They are not quite as funky, substantial or as (seemingly) well financed as Farer but this new design does it for me.

I particularly like the multi level design and the 'moat' of Lyme around the outer edge. For £300 it's worth a punt IMO.

I love several of the Farer models but they seem expensive for such a young brand, even Christopher Ward did not jump up the market that quickly.

Glycine Combat Sub 48mm £675 all duty paid.

Should be arriving in the next few days from WatchGooRoo.

Will let you know how it goes, but it must be better than than my recent disaster with a Tissot PRS516 42mm Quartz Chrono on steel bracelet.

Beginning of this month I went to a well known high street jewelers, this particular store is large watch only specialist, quite classy, with separate Rolex shop within the main shop. I had to use this shop as i was using a gift card, but I didn't mind as I though it would be a new experience. I haven't bought any of my watches from high street retailers.

In the shop sat at personal counter offered coffee while they brought out watch and went through the box. A big box two books and loads of paper work tags, spare links etc. At the time I did think the assistant didn't really know much about watches in general and was just selling a piece of jewelry. But I went ahead with the purchase £540.

When home and calmed down from the initial excitement I noticed the sweep hand was not pointing on 12:00 but nearly half a second before and when triggered missed all markers by this same amount. I though it just needed resetting to home so looked for the instructions on how to do it. It was then I realised there wasn't an instruction book or specification statement. The hologram/QR code sticker wasn't there either and I didn't recall seeing it being removed.

Took it back the next day and a different assistant looked at it and showed it to a colleague and agreed it should not have been sold in that condition.

So they ordered me another one. A few days later i got a phone call to say the new one had arrived but it had the same fault. They then said it would be sent away for repair and if came back next week i could come in and see if i still wanted it post repair.

Just over a week later i went and was told it has had to go back to Tissot and would now take a few weeks.

Got a text Thursday to say it was back and had been fully serviced. When I arrived they unpacked it in front of me and to be fair it was in a very nice travell case, which i guess I would have been given, but you guessed it, still the same.

At this point there were quite few staff members looking at it, they also brought out the second one, checked all the service instructions and documentation sent back with it.

I'd had enough so just asked for my money back, which they did along with streams of apologies.

So the lessons here:-

Tissot as a brand, wont touch them again.
It was going to be my first quartz, never again keep with my auto's.
High street jewelers not work the extra, stay away.

Will I regret not getting the Tissot sorted, the next few days will tell..........

Simon.

Interesting, may well go for a Coniston or Cherwell after my holiday. scratchchin

They do look nice, decently priced and something a bit different.

Not new by any means, but I traded my IWC Portofino Chronograph (plus a few pennies) for this yesterday, and I love it. It's got original receipts, Chronometer certificate, service history and 3 books about Zenith!

Been after something green for a while and thought about an Alpinist, but stumbled across the Recraft SNKM97 today and after a bit of Googling got it for a silly low price.

Love the '70s feel about this and can't wait for it to arrive. smile

I agree, I'd completely understand not wanting a Tissot again, but it sounds like you got pretty good service, Simon.

It certainly doesn't sound like you got the "they all do that, sir" treatment. You did say that it seemed like they didn't know a huge amount, but hey, not eveyone is a super watch geek.
