Just finished it off. Fitted a pin (full depth through body, not just the cape) for the back and filled a couple of pores from the melt. wink

What a fantastic set of posts... good news/fingers crossed... you look so much different to your fingers!... and of course another fantastic bit of work that I suspect will have its recipient in tears, in the best way...

Anyone else disappointed by how normal Eddie looks? Based on only seeing thumb pictures previously I’ve always assumed he had already received a telegram from the Queen due to his age and his facial features were not visible due to an excessively bushy beard/face. Perhaps, something similar to Hagrid from Harry Potter.

Seriously though, good luck with the scan and good to see you back posting.

Jeez, what size is that marquise diamond Eddie?

Makes the one you did for me look tiny.

Whoa, back up a moment there. Seriously?

Jesus, people really need to get a grip. This is one of my favourite PH threads. I find any kind of “making” post/YouTube video utterly fascinating. I’ve no idea how people make stuff on lathes and I’ve lost hours watching stuff like that. Same with woodworking/log cabin building. I’m completely useless with my hands, so seeing other people “do stuff” is great.

I really love seeing how a lump of metal can be worked into something so intricate, how the stones are set, the whole process.

Sure, Eddie may have got some extra business from this thread but by the sounds of things he wasn’t exactly sitting around with his feet on the desk all day as it was. It’d probably be easier for him not to photograph and post stuff on here (notwithstanding he no doubt documents processes for clients/himself anyway, but posting it takes time, ergo money). And I bet PHers have all had at least a little “mates’ rates” discount, so again, he could have made more by not doing PH commissions.

Keep the posts coming please Eddie. I miss it when there isn’t new stuff to look at in this thread and I’d be really disappointed if the thread didn’t get updated every now and again.

Ditto on the "keep up the good work Eddie!"

On a side note Dibble, have you seen some of the primitive technology videos on YouTube? I have only just come across these and they are a great way to get some bad ideas and lose many hours.

A massive thank you to Eddie - he sorted my mums broken watch strap when others wouldn’t touch it.

Excellent work, made her very happy not to have to shell out on a replacement strap.
Much appreciated - certainly gets my recommendation.

Eddie, do you do reuse of old rings and the like to create new designs? Mrs Don1 wants to reuse a few rings and necklaces to make a new art deco-esque piece.
Cheers!

Excellent news and glad she was happy. As you know, the repair might see out her strap so if you keep an eye on the 2nd hand strap market it might be worth getting another if one comes up for a good price.

Happy to help as always.

Hmm! Truly a remarkable project. He's clearly got some skills.

I've often thought about making my own watch from raw materials, but as busy person there's just no way I could do it with what time off I have. Really a job for the retired or someone who has more time and money than they know what to do with. That Ford Escort is something else. Top marks.

Russell Lord is known as one of the best diamond setters in the business.

That escort is an amazing work of art! Bet it will go for stupid money when he sells it.

I hope it does. The show is a good place to punt it, or if that fails to bring a good figure I'd be looking to somewhere like Harrods to sell it for him. Plenty of money in London and Harrods can pretty much charge whatever.
