Hi,

I'm a complete watch n00b (please don't hate me) and I'm after some advice.

My partner has just had a landmark birthday and I wanted to get her a watch (budget 6k mark).

Ideally it would have been a gold cased black leather strapped Cartier Tank (Francais?) But they don't produce it any more.

Can anyone suggest anything that would work around the 6-6.5k budget? It will be purely a dress / occasional formal watch.

I'll be avoiding TH

Any help greatly appreciated

Cheers T1b

Rectangular ladies watches are not that easy to find.

I bought a Cartier Tank for my wife (Dom H on here can help you with a good deal) and I didn't find too much else that she liked. The only other was the JLC Reverso but I'm not sure whether you will get a gold cased one for you budget.

Cartier Tank comes in a few different designs so you should be able to find one on a strap and you can switch the strap if it isn't a black one.

Can't go wrong with gold Cartier tank as it ticks all the boxes. Women's watches are bigger than they used to be so I'd suggest mid sized or even the chronograph models, on brown leather. With her prior approval though, as it's never worth taking a chance on such things, have you considered a Bvlgari Diagono Chronograph. I bought my wife one of those and she wore it until it fell to pieces (aluminium case is light but not great).

Actually just looked and the prices of bigger Cartiers are a lot higher than they used to be. Be careful on the size though as some of the ladies models are similar to the titchy penny size things you used to see hidden somewhere on your grandma's massive wrist. The name doesn't mean anything if her friends don't notice it!

I'll have a look at the one mentioned. The gold is mainly due to her jewellery being pretty chunky gold items.

I don't think a big watch would work for her anyway.

Cheer's for the info chaps!

If you have any passing interest in the watch holding its value then your search begins and ends with Rolex Lady Datejust.

Plenty at WF within your budget

Indeed, he is thinking about recouping his funds during the divorce, or maybe he just doesn't make a bleating sound as he traverses the High St !!!

Why would he care about value retention in an emotive gift ?

I bought my other half a JLC Reverso which she loves. But a gold one might be over budget

Just pointed you in the right direction, didn't realise you'd need me to choose the exact model for you, would you need me to buy it, wrap it and hand deliver it too?

As to tying your shoe laces and wiping your boom boom, get your mum to do it.

The correct answer to any what Watch thread is a Base Panerai so maybe a PAM231.

My serious suggestion is buy what she likes or you will get no end of grief, or she won't wear it. I bought my Mrs a lovely Cartier with a lovely soft pink mother of pearl dial, she really likes it, but wears a Michael Coors as she likes it more smile

I dunno. Maybe because the thread title has "need some advice please". I'm sure the OP found your contribution much more valuable though.

I'll have a look at some of the suggestions today. Regarding the "here's the website link, choose" then the usual PH 4r53h0l3 response.

I'd already been there, the particular model of tank solo I originally sort (gold case, black leather strap) wasn't there so hence I thought it was discontinued and hence the thread.

However your reply is a sad reminder of where PH is going. Ta for being a proper Web warrior. You should be proud.

Cheers as always T1b

Aimed at me ? If so you're welcome.

Personally I think the Cartier option is by far the best one and hope you find one.
