She says grumpily "OK, if you insist, but I carry a Chanel bag on the other wrist. Won't that get damaged too, or be uncomfortable?"

Also... "it hasn't damaged my Rolex so why would it damage the Cartier?"

It almost certainly will have damaged her Rolex. Whether to a degree that she notices is another matter.

Cartier Tank Francaise bought. 25% off. Free cleaning kit too!

She's happy. I'm off to research some more on Zenith...

Well done, very attractive watch.

I looked at Zenith El Primero for a bit. But they didn't look as good on the wrist as they did in the brochure and they don't have a hacking second hand.

I have to admit I took one look at this thread title and had to have a giggle. Almost the dictionary definition of a first world problem

No offence intended OP, I know that's not what was meant. Just wryly amusing though.

Does she always drop brand names into everyday conversation?

Yes. Another first world problem.

As for Santos. Call them. Winsor Bishop in Norwich. 25% off all Cartier they have in stock. Some have lost their warranty paperwork so ask. My wife's was all present and correct.

When I last spoke to Ri hard at Winsor Bishop, about 5 years ago, they were ending their Cartier franchise then. They're taking their bloody time about it.

Get her a custom icedout Patek or Rolly, that way she won't have to wear her diamond set bracelet and a watch, she'll have a diamond watch.

Something like this

http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Rolex/Daytona/116576-...

hopefully should work during the 2 to 3 months time the other Rolly is on the bench?

She's put the bracelet on the other wrist now so that's saved me £96,000! Enough for a nice Zenith for me?

Go try on a Zenith and play around with it, see if you still like the idea. I found that they lacked presence on the wrist. By that I don't mean bling...

....which brings me onto the subject of Veblen goods. You seem to me to be a chap for whom brand prestige is a big factor. In light of that, Zenith might not keep your attention for very long and, unlike Rolex, the resale values are not strong.

You could be right, no matter how much I tell myself "buy what you like" I still like the idea of Rolex, Cartier, Porsche... But then they have proven to be good devices also, not just brand names. I'd be turning this concept around, buying a good instrument which mostly flies under the radar. Will that suit the egoist inside me? I struggle with wearing the Seiko when my Rolex could be on my wrist. I guess part of me is trying not to be so shallow as to crave brand identity constantly as it is so crass and puts me on the level of the kind of moneyed people I really don't like. Wearing the Seiko and getting compliments is like some kind of therapy!

Totally agree with you there, I struggle having to look at the time on my phone when I could have The Casio Classic on my wrist, but I guess part of me is just forgetful in putting on, The Casio, which puts me on the level of the people who don't have a Casio. Wearing, The Casio does always get me compliments perhaps one of the best was from the Japanese anaesthetist a few months back before he knocked me out, we briefly compared The Casio's before I passed out.

Hoping to be in the market for a Classic myself within the next few years. (If I can convince the Mrs to let me spend the money). Currently giving some wrist time to a Casio Alarm Chrono. Some say it's a bit 'couldn't afford a Classic', but it's a damn good watch and I've successfully used the backlight to operate a portable camping toilet in a pitch dark forest.

To be fair the Casio Alarm Chrono is a decent watch, perhaps the "poor mans" (not to be rude) Casio Classic, and with a good usable back light, perhaps one that surpasses the luminosity of the Classic, however there is always that underlying stigma of being the paupers Classic, I of course mean no disrespect to yourself, we are not all flush and I do get that. I am by no means flush at all, but it was just after Christmas this year when my bonus came in, as well as the gift of cash from relatives coupled with the boxing day sales that I was able to purchase this beauty for an eye watering £10, but with a fellow watch connoisseur by my side we did justify that it would be a bargain at twice the price.

I certainly had their pants down there for this purchase, but as a cash buyer with a profound interest in good watch wrist time, a deal was done and it was promptly collected, didn't even have to take any links out either, just fitted straight out the box and I knew it was the one, yes I could have purchased a Cartier but I felt it would certainly clash with my significant others TK Maxx brown satchel, which she wears on her offside, but being somewhat of a rebel eccentric it would definitely boost my egotistical side, I just had to pull the trigger and purchase it.

The big advantages for me though is that the servicing costs are very little, circa £3 every 5 years for a battery, which is a shade under a Rolex servicing cost, and it isn't 3 months without a watch, just a few hours whilst a trained Japanese technician services it, but also it's ability to tell the time in not only 12 hour, but 24 hour just in case I don't know that it is morning or night.

This thread is the most bizarre, peculiar bout of willy waving I've seen on here in some time, a great read!

Kudos to you sir, that is a brave choice of colour but you've pulled it off. (Although the F-91W looks good in most colours). I imagine it compliments the TK Maxx bag quite well.

I didn't have the same courage so opted to have the CAC (Casio Alarm Chrono) in the standard anthracite. That way it doesn't clash too much with my "Aribas" trackies I got from the Saturday market.

How far have you pushed the limits re: waterproofing? My CAC is supposedly 50m water resistant, although at the moment the deepest I've taken it is 0.3m whilst I washed the dishes.

Hmmmm..... I think the Cartier doesn't look right when worn with a thumb ring.
This thread is embarrassing to read.
