Tudor definitely seem to be pushing themselves as a distinct brand.

I saw Tudor doing the timing on a sports event the telly the other day.

It sounds terrible but "nail.....coffin " as far as I'm concerned. It's like they want to do a 90's Tag heurer with their brand perception.

I wasn't impressed with the quality of Tudor recently. The bezel was just crap. I am a Rolex fan though and it looked like they were trying to visibly justify the cost difference between Rolex and Tudor.
Wow, people really are influenced by celebrity association. I never believed it could have such a direct effect.

It doesn't, in a positive sense, but after having a sneaking regard for Tudor as a leftfield choice the Beckham association's a definite negative, I'm afraid.

I don't know why Tudor bother with Beckham- surely it diminishes his impact as a Tudor ambassador when for years he's been pushing Breitling watches - obviously he will pimp himself out for any brand paying the right dollar.......would have been better to use a celebrity who has not just come from a rival watch brand.
Brand Beckham has become an over exposed joke.

I love the AP Messi but no matter how lovely it was, I would never buy a watch with a celebrity name on the back.
If I liked chronographs enough, I’d be all over that Leo Messi AP – the tantalum bezel is lovely, and both the grey and blue dials work well with it.
I get where you’re coming from, but I wouldn’t let something like that put me off what my eyes widened at.
The only reference is on the case back, which you can’t see on your wrist, so maybe don’t be so hasty to cut your nose off to spite your face?
I just can't do it, I'm afraid. I hate the marketing shyte, the promotional shyte, I just want to be a little more free to make my own selections. Plus, I don't really want to be associated with a sport that i don't like.

Some people, yes. I made the statement of "nail in coffin" as in the final straw though. Brand perception and celebrity endorsements don't dictate my watch choices. I have a Tag heuer which I save for special occasions. That is even after I Tag bashed in my previous post because they have suffered from both brand perception and poor celebrity endorsements themselves. (My daily is an IWC)

Of course people are. Why do you think there are so many "brand ambassadors"? Do they just give these celebs free stuff for sts and giggles?

Indeed, I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more about Chewdas shortly.

Yeah, I'm not being very clear. I kind of assumed it was done to increase general brand awareness and profile. I accept that there will be people who recognise Personality in adverts and look to see what the advert is about. I am surprised that it directly influences people in a "I like / do not like Personality there for I will buy / not buy endorsed product." kind of way.

Hell yes, as does much of their brand positioning. Tudor was the acceptable face...

Well, I wouldn't want to be associated with certain brands because they've got an association with someone who makes me cringe.

...and me.

I saw the advert in a newspaper and thought - like that tattooed twunt would choose a Tudor! Completely wrong for the brand IMO.

I appreciated Tudor as a brand, I liked the sort of underdog status they had and that they were relatively unheard of outside of watch watch circles.

Mostly though, I just really liked their watches.  The particular high point for me was when they started producing their own in-house movements – that made me quite excited, the nerd that I am nerd

However, when I saw that Beckham was unveiled as a brand ambassador for Tudor, my heart sank.

I certainly wouldn’t be driven to buy a product – any product, not just a watch -  because of ambassador / celebrity association. I may well buy the product, but the celebrity association wouldn’t be a factor.

The kicker for me is that I dislike football, and the culture that goes with it.  That Beckham is now an ambassador for Tudor is really off-putting for me. However, I realise I’m in the minority, and that in marketing terms, Tudor have almost certainly pulled off a blinder here.

Edit: for what it's worth, I can ignore / see past most associations but football isn't one of them and Beckham turns it up to 10 for me.

I was just about to buy a Black Bay, and this has definitely put me right off.

The last thing I want is someone to say "Oh, you have got one of those watches Beckham wears?" as you know they are really saying in their head "Oh, you have got one of those watches Beckham wears you fking bell end!?"

In other shock news, Beckham is confirmed to drink wine, eat cornflakes and it is rumoured that he wipes his own bottom after defecating.
Presumably all things that many posters here will immediately stop doing for fear of association with the squeaky ex-footballer.

Can't say it would influence me either way. They have also started heavily using the All Blacks rugby team for advertising too if that helps anyone with a "footballers are fairies" mindset! I think Omega's Bond tie-in is far and away the best marketing tool any of the watchmakers have managed... hard to match that.

Because you seem a bit unable to accept the *personal* opinions of others, you resort to facetiousness but in the process, demonstrate admirably your complete lack of comprehension of the issue.

Hint: What you describe and what we’re discussing isn’t the same thing. Have a think about it.

If you’re still struggling to grasp the notion, we’ll do our best to explain it to you smile
