I purchased a deep-blue yesterday and ad removed all stickers in front of me but let me have papers. Watchfinder ask £3k over list on these

He said if it's a Daytona they also hold onto papers for 6 months

I must say deep blue is amazing my 3rd Rolex and without a doubt the most impressive

Out of interest how long did you wait to get it?

Who was the AD?

I'm next on the list for a GMT II BLNR at the AD I used to get my non ceramic Daytona back in 2005 and my wife's GMT II BLNR which she got in November 2014. It'll be interesting to see what they say and do regarding the stickers and warranty card. The BLNR is a keeper for me though as it's a birthday present to myself biggrin

It is a fact that AD's are keeping back the warranty card. You get told before paying and take it or leave it.

It happened to me, and as I am not flipping it, it is fine.

I understand why they are doing it, I believe Porsche are watching with interest, and the article posted earlier in the thread backs it up.

I've been popping into the same two AD's in Birmingham on a regular basis and get told that there is a waiting list and they aren't accepting new requests. Must keep trying going by what some posters are saying.

As much as a few £ in return is good, I couldn't ever see myself selling one on again if I get one.

Just picked up mine today, with box and full papers. When i asked about some dealers withholding the warranty card, my AD looked at me like I was an idiot.

Sometimes it pays to be in the right place at the right time and be persistent, I wasn't a Rolex owner prior to my 116500 LN Daytona, however I really wanted one, and at the time was flying bi - monthly in and out of one of the main Swiss airport’s.

So I made a point to ask for the store manager at the AD in the airport last June and gave him my details on a post stick note and told him to call me when he had the watch in. I then harassed him with at least one phone call a week and popped in the boutique every two weeks (until he politely said pi**s off and he will call me when he has the watch). Low and behold at the end of August he rang with the good news for me to come and collect the watch!

In all around a 3 month wait, considering I had never purchased anything from that particular AD before let alone owned a Rolex, I think has some part to do with persistence.

My advice would be always ask to speak to the store managers directly as they make the ultimate decision of who the watches get allocated to in most cases, and also be persistent, it’s worth pestering your AD to make sure they don’t forget about you (in my opinion anyway)!

I agree, I think Daytonas are at the Manager's discretion, I'd say a regular sales assistant would never be able to just sell one from stock without ok-ing it / pitching it to the manager first!

I don't agree. For both the previous model and the current one I just went into the boutique and said I was interested in buying one. In both cases I tried on a black and a white face, stated my preference and put my name on the list. For the first one I was told the waiting list was likely to be a year. I think it was about 3 months. For the ceramic I put my name down at the end of April last year and got the call in August. I couldn't tell you if the different ladies I dealt with each time were the cleaner or a member of the board.

2 local Ads to me have both told me that the waiting lists have closed and estimated it to be 10 years should you want one and on a list

I'm not a fan of the Daytona, but when I did ask a local AD to check how long it is out of curiosity I was told the same as above.

They also mentioned they have only received 2 watches this year, in 7 months!!

The only EU dealer I asked told me 5-6 years but the list is closed anyway as there are too many names on it.

Speaking to a dealer in the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham, not an AD they have a black dial for sale and tells me they can source a white dial within 6 weeks, downside £15.5K !!!

So Rolex create massive demand through under supply and then the ADs try to influence what the buyer does with the "massively in demand watch" by withholding some of the paperwork.............OK...........

I picked up my GMT II BLNR yesterday from Mappin & Webb, Cambridge after being on their waiting list for a BLNR for only four months, I guess it helped being a repeat customer not having to wait too long.

It was an incredibly pleasant experience purchasing the watch and I can confirm that I have all papers, guarantee card, tags and bezel protector but they did remove the protective plastic wrapping from the watch body and strap.

The BLNR market is no where near as crazy as the ceramic Daytona one though to be fair, you can pick one up for £1000 over list without waiting so are in greater supply, people are asking 6k-7.5k over list on the Daytona as they just aren't available to match any demand.
