Objectively, do people like the Daytona for the watch, or because of the premiums. I see a lot on peoples wrists at certain driving/golfing events, so they are not that exclusive.

I have a BLNR as well and that gets worn a lot, the Daytona is nice but not £15,000 nice, that is Patek Aquanaut money.

Can't stand the look of them! Can't see the point of all the little dials? Ugly. Buyers buy them for the social standing of having paid a premium perhaps? (especially at golfing events).

This is nice though...

I know everyone is different and I wasn't initially a Daytona fan but after a couple of years of owning a few watches decided it was time to add one to my collection.
I didn't see the sense in paying massively over list for a ceramic SS model when you can buy a bi-metal for less or a white/ yellow gold model for not much more if you negotiate.
I went for a bi-metal version to add something different and think it compliments my collection (which includes a green ceramic Submariner and blue/ black ceramic GMT II) well.

I picked up my GMT II BLNR yesterday from Mappin & Webb, Cambridge after being on their waiting list for a BLNR for only four months, I guess it helped being a repeat customer not having to wait too long.

It was an incredibly pleasant experience purchasing the watch and I can confirm that I have all papers, guarantee card, tags and bezel protector but they did remove the protective plastic wrapping from the watch body and strap.
Beautiful watch my friend - enjoy

I like the Daytona for the watch, heritage etc - reading this is what really swayed me:

Happy to pay retail - but like you i have a BLNR which i love and wear daily so not going to pay 15k for a daytona.

Plus having the BLNR, i know i will love the new ceramic bezel on the daytona...

Green ceramic sub - is that the hulk or the 50th?

I'd like to add a hulk to my collection - not sure it would get much use over the BLNR though?

I'd love the white gold sub with blue ceramic bezel too...

When collecting my wife's new DJ last Friday, the AD director suggested keeping the plastic films in place "as many do" so as to offer protection until it drops off naturally.

Having said that, he also mentioned that they hold onto the warranty card for 12 months for Daytonas.

All in line with Rolex's master plan. I admire the way they work the public.

It's the Hulk I went for. Find I wear it with a more casual outfit compared to when I wear the GMT II so both get sort of equal wrist time.

I also love the white gold submariner with the blue ceramic bezel, I'd best start saving...

I quite like mine, and due to its horological significance I'm glad I've had one in my small collection. Ultimately I think I'll move it on though.

I know what you mean about the golf club vibe...

A man of taste. I also lust after the white gold to complete the threesome.

I thought prices were softening just slightly but I've now seen 2 dealers asking quite a lot more than the previous upper limit of £16k at £16,750 and £16.950

That's going to make things worse if they sell because they will think they might squeeze even more next time!

Bumping an oldish thread. I plan on getting my name down to as many AD's within say a 50 mile area of my home town for one. Though from the places that I have spoken with already, no-one has an open list that I can be added onto! I've even brought watches from two different AD's within the last 10 months.

If you REALLY want one i'd try as many dealers as possible and why limit yourself to the UK? It's a £9k watch that has a stupidly long lead time, would you not spend a couple of hundred quid on a flight somewhere to get one?

A flight to where to get one though?

Take your chances, look up ADs in other coumtries and give them a call just like you would here, lots of staff in high end shops speak English

EXACTLY 10yrs ago I couldn't get the (then) new ceramic GMT and UK dealers were giving me smug answers about 2 year waits, after ringing around in France and Germany I waited 2 weeks before getting a call and I flew to Nice 2 days later, it worked out at £3.4k for the watch at the time plus about £150 for flights + I stayed 2 nights but could have easily done it in a day! If you really want something it takes effort, some people have been lucky with ceramic Daytonas but if you want one, ring EVERYONE

I will start that if it comes to it, and I am also conveniently going on another road trip to Lake Como next year so may be able to tie the two in together. Problem is, the wife will want another one on the trip!

I'm not sold on the looks. I would prefer the sub dials to be 1 solid colour like the Tag Heuer Autavia or Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 35th Anniversary.

Hypothetically, if I were to have found a 116500 at a AD in France. Am I able to claim any of the local taxes back?

They list at 10,950.00 €, which in itself isn't bad (in comparison to current grey £prices) once converted to £, however I was wondering if there were further savings to be made on taxes for a UK resident.
