Looking for a birthday gift for my father.
He's worked in construction all his life and never wore a watch.
He'd now like something nice, but not too "dressy". He'd never get anything over £50 for himself and will never wear anything that would be worth £100 or more, so I set the budget at a healthy £ 150 (although if he knew he'd tell me I'm crazy for spending such a "ridiculous" amount on a watch).

I thought about getting him a nice Seiko 5 movement but I know that he'd actually much prefer a quartz movement because of convenience.

I stumbled across this watch, which I like a lot. It's currently for sale at €150 so well within budget.

It's a Seiko SSC435P1 solar chronograph. Any thoughts on it?

You like it, but does HE like it?

It started by him wearing one of my watches I accendentaly left at his house (had some manual labor to do and took off the watch).
He very much liked that watch.
It's a cheapo €50 I had, but it's the same type of watch and the same size.

So yes, I'm pretty sure that he's going to like this.
The other part is that it's very hard to buy gifts for him so if I find a good one I don't mind spending a bit more.

I just wanted to check if this, being Seiko, is going to be good quality by definition or is this a tarted up €30 thing?

Can you go and see one and check quality for yourself, or are you buying mail order?

Hadn't found anything like it from a respected brand in that price range in the local stores.
Anyway, ordered it today (limited time offer). Can send it back if I don't like it smile. I'll keep you posted.
