Hi all.

Does anyone here own of of these? I'm just wondering how well the black finish holds up to knocks and dings.

Also not sure whether it's worth going for the newer, slightly updated 2017 model. I quite fancy a nearly-all-black watch but the 2017 model isn't (yet?) available in DLC coating.

Any thoughts, or any alternative watches in a similar style/price range?

Cheers.

Tudor Black Bay is about £700 more, but is aimed at the same market.
I can’t speak for the PVD or the Tudor, but the Aquis is a terrific watch. I prefer it to either my old Rolex Sub or my Navitimer because it’s just that bit less obvious.

Thanks for the reply. Actually that's a great shout, I already own an in-house Pelagos which I'm very fond of. I'm not sure why the Black Bay never occurred to me.

Nice to hear you're happy with your Aquis. I tried on the green bezel variant a couple of years ago and I kind of wish I'd bought it.

Maybe not the same coating? But I've got a black Seiko 5 that I use as a 'rough service' watch and although I've knocked it many times the black coating is yet to scratch, even when I've managed to dent it (can't say the same for the crystal/plastic though) but it has slightly 'polished' away one one edge of the strap/bracelet where it rubs against a sleeve.

Thanks Catso. That looks a nice one.

I've got a couple of Seikos (Monster & Tuna) and I'm definitely a fan of the brand. I ought to own more really... I'll have a look into their black offerings. The Steinhart Ocean Black is an option too I guess, although I much prefer the Oris.

I'm back to looking at Damaskos again now. I was close to buying one when I bought my Tudor but this time round I reckon it's a definite. Just got to choose which variant, which is proving particularly tricky!

DC56 from Page and Cooper. Next will be a Sinn 856 UTC - once I've sold a Tudor Black Bay Red. I couldn't be without a date complication.

There's not a Damasko that I don't like, but I think I'm down to a DA44 or DA45 (both black casings), though I do like the DC models. I fancy a model with a bezel this time, and with the numbered bezel I prefer the dials without number markings.

The Sinn 856/7 UTC's have also been on my radar, I do rather like the 856 UTC S on the black bracelet. There's almost too much choice.
