You paid extra for excess protection, but then had to pay the excess. What's that about?

Of course the employer should pay

Where there is no written policy to the contrary as part of the terms and conditions of employment, the bill is surely the employer’s

Some people mention next time. My response next time would be to wholly ignore the request

Nevermind, he just phoned me to say he'll cover it.

I was gutted when it happened, my heart just sank. Everything had gone without incident until that happened halfway home. I spent the entire journey back just thinking "if I'd stopped for fuel elsewhere / set off earlier / set off later / etc then I wouldn't have been in that spot at that specific moment in time"
He wasn't pulling your leg?

If you had stopped or done something different you may have had a huge accident, who's knows. It's a sliding doors moment and there is never any point in thinking like this.

He'll just deduct it from your pay.
