Continuing the theme of Annual Calendars ...
Today is a 5726A - probably a more practical watch than the other two in that it has 120m water resistance and SS bracelet etc. The day date and month are probably easier to read at a glance.

with the rear shot - different movement to the 5146 but again I feel that the ALS movement is finished to a higher standard.

You own the PP watch above AND the L&S watch below?

Very jealous!!

The L&S is perfect.

If I was you, I'd spend all day looking at my watches and never getting anything done!
I agree but this illustrates why im drawn to Lange and only a few PP.

When the two are side by side like that I feel the sub dials on the PP are too close to the dial center. If they made the batons slightly smaller and moved the sub dials out it would be more balanced in my eyes. the white contrast date window is also something I don't personally like (and date windows at 4 on many of the modern 7750 based Chronos).

I appreciate the mechanical excellence in both though. smile

They can't move the sub dials out because the movement is a shared one the 324 (324 S C I think?).

  • EDIT - it's the 324 S IRM QA LU biggrin

ALS is built for the watch I believe, so any dial layout is possible.

HOWEVER...PP patented the annual calendar and this watch looks much like the first one (from the 1990s). PP also patented the perpetual calendar decades earlier...but that's in a different league.

There is a lot of history to the PP and the movement that you are buying into.

I generally don't like sports watches on leather, but I like that.
I have the bracelet too, both genuine items.

...and at the other end of the scale I wore my 1967 Bulova Aerojet automatic today. Simple but it works and it makes a change from the bigger watches I usually wear.

How are you getting on with the Evoque?

I don't have one. My wife drove one for 3 years, loved it. Switched her into a Disco Sport last year for the extra space. She loves that too.

The Disco Sport is a better thing than I was expecting. I had one on loan for a few days and it was as good an urban runabout as you get. Attack speed bumps with impunity, park easily, carry loads / passengers, light steering. Very good.

The only time I liked it less was on motorways. Its light weight and light steering made it quite vulnerable to side winds and HGV drafts. On long, fast sweeping curves the light steering did not inspire confidence.

Cheers, yes, there was about 50 est. made; 'sternzeit' = star time [sidereal] 'reguliert' = regulated, used for astronomical navigation for artillery units.

Wow I did not know they were “that” rare. I nearly picked up a Leonidas version for a great price but got sidetrackedfrown

Loaners are usually poverty models. Get one with adaptive drive line and adaptive dynamics and they are fine. It's not that light either, weighs almost as much as the bigger (aluminum bodied) Velar or F-Pace. My wife's car has In Control Pro, adaptive dynamics, cooled seats, 825w Meridian etc.. It's better equipped than my F-Type!

Chris - stunning watches, it's the Lange that really does it for me.

Andy - I've tried one one of those maybe 5-6 times now, it's a watch I really want to like however it just wears a touch too large. One day, though.

An old 'photo however it's been my DA36 today after wearing my Monta pretty much every day since getting it.

The first of 2018, bought in the sale. It's a grower. It's going on the bracelet in the next few days
