Been offered a 1990 Rolex 16610 Submariner, E serial for around the 4k mark, looks very well looked after a day serviced last year, thoughts on value? Always wanted one, and hoping it would be a good place to invest my cash, not looking to gain but ideally not lose if I need to release funds wink

Sounds very fair if it's tidy, bracelet not worn out, has box and papers and isn't nicked.

At that age, age isn't a problem if it makes any sense. It's all about condition. If it's tidy and you know where it has come from it sounds like a very fair price for one of the most iconic sports watches out there.

Have you any photos?

Condition, originality and service records trump age - I'm no expert on Rolex though that does sound like a very fair price indeed.

NIce box

but obviously not the box the watch originally came with (if that's important to you)

You'd have to be very unlucky for it to go missing if posted via special delivery. I'd go with £500 value because the parcel will almost certainly arrive without issues

Ah, so you've not actually handled this watch then? Personally I would only buy something like this face-to-face, assuming it's a private seller.

Ok that is also an option, anything to look out for?

General condition and bracelet stretch. Also is the seller genuine? Sorry but for some reason I read into your OP that you knew the seller.

I still think it's likely to be okay, but I am wary about parting with four figure sums based on photos - if there is no comeback anyway.

As mentioned above, that isn't it's box. Who serviced it?

It doesn't matter that it doesn't have its original box and papers.Thirty years is a long time for someone, possibly several people, to lose them. It is priced accordingly.

Personally, I'd go and see the watch and seller in person. I'd satisfy myself that the watch is as good as it looks, that the paperwork relates to the watch and that I "buy" the seller. Then I would buy and enjoy it.
